I left Schottenkirk, I had gone 3 times looking at a Tundra. I could tell they were shady so I went to Family Toyota in Burleson. The same exact truck, Black Tundra with the blackout package and got it for $5,300 less than Schottenkirk.

Its a shame, Jerry's was a great dealership, both their Chevy house and Toyota and 5 minutes away. Next tundra will be from somewhere else. I ended up getting good deal other than the charger [censored]. That said I had to go to war. They wanted my social before we did anything. I said until we get to the number it doesn't matter as I usually wrote check for them, which he saw in my file from other purchases. Sales manager finally came out and we had a side bar. I can't repeat what I told him here but basically that he could sell a truck in the next 10 minutes or I would go across street and buy one and show it to him in about 30 more minutes. He got better and we got a deal done. Now that was 2020 before they ran outa trucks. I'm sure the last couple years I wouldn't have pulled it off other than just paying too much. Shotenkirk has that feeling of wolves staring at you when you walk in ready to eat you alive.

Thanks bro, this post wasn't really that well thought out. I figured I would post some funny stuff that happens here. But it does make for some good content.

There's the "How much do you want your monthly payment to be?" sales pitch. What the hell are you talking about. Dont worry about how much im going to put down, how much im financing, or how much my monthly payment will be. Especially before ive even decided if i want to buy a car. I'll let you know those things, and if ill consider your financing when we agree on an out the door price.

And not all dealerships, but ive been to a few, especially pre-covid where you'd think the sales people got all their training from Goodfellas. 5 sales guys standing out front as soon as you pull up. Every one of them, hair slicked back, cheap suit, 5 oclock shadow.

If you look at it from my perspective...

I don't care what your payment is. Whether it's $200 or $1200 we still sell the vehicle for the same price. I ABSOLUTELY want to get the trade value knocked out up front. I don't get paid to sit here and not sell cars. It's important to me to know whether a guy is 15k upside down before I spend a ton of time. That's just the truth.

I don't know what you do. But let's say you're a home builder. How much time do you want to spend with a guy that simply can't make a transaction.

And I know what you are talking about, it's different here for a million reasons I put in place. Ive tried my best over 20 years to make buying from me as easy as making an amazon purchase. Big dealerships make it difficult. The longer you sit there and get stressed out the more you will just sign on the dotted line when you make it to the back office after 5 hours.

If I have a car I bought for $5000. Marked to $10000.

You want to trade in your ride (which is stupid).

I offer you $4000 for it. You buy the vehicle for $6000 with the trade.

Here's what people don't understand. The money over $5000. Doesn't exist. So in other words. I got a profit of $1000 and your old ride for free.

Trading in is the dumbest thing you can do.

I wish it was that easy, more like spend 45,000 at auction. Auction fee $600, pay the buyer $500, $300 for transport, $200 for detail, $50 to the picture guy, who knows what it needs other than that. End up selling it for $43,900. Happens more than you think. Your post about the car business is about like Jerry Jones talking about the 90's. It just doesn't work like that anymore.

And I don't mean any disrespect.

The dumbest thing anyone can do is take any advice from you.

Can I interest you in free oil changes? For the life of the car. (It only takes 5 hours to change it.)

Well, self recognition is a step in the right direction.

If you’re so awesome at selling cars, and know everything about the car biz, why aren’t you still selling cars?

Brian, you seem like a pretty upstanding guy, these are just my beefs with some of the things ive seen.

As far as the monthly payment, what you have said above is my point, IF youre doing business the right way. But, I think alot of dealerships/salesman use that as a pitch to fool people that arent good with money. Something along the lines of: You want to spend $500 a month? Ok, we can get you in this shiny truck right over here with all the bells and whistles. And what's not said: Im tacking on this bs fee and that bs fee, we'll extend the loan term to some ridiculous length, add on gap insurance, etc. but you'll be dumb and happy cause I got your payment down to $500. I think for a smart buyer, the answer to that question is: the monthly payment will be what it is, im negotiating the price of the truck and we'll go from there.

As far as the trade in, if I own the car/truck outright you don't have to worry im 15k upside down and you shouldnt need the keys to figure that out. Going out on a limb here, but im doubting you"misplaced" anyones keys so you could keep them at the dealership longer...

Probably at the Ford dealership that committed fraud with the "new engine." They're probably on edge all the time.

I will never forget this Light Blue 69 VW that was brought in to the dealership by the bank in Odessa. I was the shop foreman at the time. The car had the back glass and both side glasses blown out and needed a complete rear seat other than that there was not much damage. I stuck my head in thru one of the blown out windows and the smell was overpowering. I asked what happened and the guy said the man that owned it committed suicide in the car. I held my nose and looked around inside. That year Bug had a perforated headliner. There was pieces of hair and flesh in all the holes. Turned out the guy put a half stick of dynamite on the rear tunnel put his head on it and since the battery was under the rear seat all he had to do was reach over and touch the blasting cap wire to the battery. He was serious about committing suicide. I refused to work on it until it was cleaned up. They finally did get it to where we would work on it by removing the headliner.

Man, that’s crazy! If I was going to off myself I’d probably do it by catching the ultimate buzz, choke on my vomit…etc., something way more hip and/or normal than that guy.
