Is there a particular demographic skew to the clientele there?

A step-dad of mine was part owner in a pay here lot in Abilene. I thought it pretty cool because we always got to ride in all different kind of vehicles, until one day I went with him on a repo. We drove to a grocery store parking lot and found the truck. He gave me the keys and told me to go get it and drive to to him, we were at the far edge of the lot and waited while he called the police to inform them of the repo. After about 20 minutes I saw a family of 5 with all young kids with two cart loads of groceries go to the location of where the truck had been and the kids started crying, etc. It was really hard to watch. I refused to go on another repo after that.

You want to know the honest truth? They try their best not to note to white people. At least in my experience.

Would they note to Nick Byrd?

Tell us some stories.

1. Dude regretted his purchase. Came into my store and put a knife up to his throat and threatened to kill himself on the showroom floor if we didn't refund him his down payment. Keep in mind, this was months after he purchased, not a couple days. His car was completely fine. Tons of LEO's showed up to that one.

2. Repo'd a Tahoe and it had been used as a getaway car in a murder a week or so before. The sheriff's office came and removed some items to be used for evidence, but they did not seize the car or anything.

3. Had to repo a dude's car because he was egregiously behind on his payments and was not communicating with us to set up a payment plan. He called up and threated physically harm on some staff. I will leave it at that, but the cops got involved in that one.

4. Had a guy out on a fishing trip, and he left a bucket of dead fish in the back of his car. The car got repo'd on a Saturday night in August. The damn car sat on the lot with the bucket of dead fish sitting in the back of the car marinating in the heat until we got to the car Monday. The car was totally fine mechanically, but had to sell it at auction because it would have been impossible to get any rational person to buy it. The smell was impossible to get out.

5. Repo'd countless cars that were full of drugs, guns, sex toys, etc... Had to call cops many times to come seize property like that.

6. Had a lady come in to buy a vehicle. She claimed she did contract work bounty hunting. She had no way to prove her income, so I denied her. She caused an absolute scene like I have never witnessed in my life. She was a full blown meth head having an episode.

7. Accidentally bought the wrong car at auction countless times. That was always an expensive mistake.

I owned a large portolfio, carried roughly 300 units in inventory and had 30 employees on my 7 acre lot. I saw just about everything you could imagine.

I really don’t know. It has been debated…especially related to how he fishes.

Sounds like the parents made a series of poor choices.

CRAZY I have a similar story. Had nothing to do with our dealership. Buddy of min that ran a BHPH lot LOVED doing repos. He got extra cash for each one an he was good at it. Nothing to loose type of a guy. It was during Covid when it was bad. I had it for the first time but wasn't really sick. He calls me and says he knows that a car he was looking for was at the Walmart by my house in McKinney. I didn't know what was getting into but he just wanted me to go spot it, he was on the way. He could tell me within 50 foot of where it was. Out walks a mom with 2 kids. I don't remember the exact date, but it was like 4-5 days before Christmas. It wasn't anything crazy, and they ended up with the car back the next day. If I remember they were 90 days late on their last payment.

I had a friend who owned a lot in east Dallas. He had a sign over the area where you made your weekly payment.
