I have a 2003 Yamaha 250 ox66. It starts everytime. Runs well. If I stop and idle and don't give it gas or try to start it and not give it enough gas , it will not start again . I started pumping the bulb idk if that is helping but it will start again after about an hour or so. I've spent over 2000 already on a place I won't name but 1.lose wire 2.new ignition 3kill switch and probably electronic full pump I am thinking wasn't actually bad. Please help need to know a good place to find fix problem.cant afford the guessing anymore. Suggestions Thanks

Hope none of us take ours to the place you won't name. I use Service Marine in Emory.

Have you done a sea foam clean out and replaced the plugs after?

Yes they work on Yamaha it's a well know place. I am in Mckinney could go to rockwall or around fork I guess. I just can't pay for the guessing anymore. I've left the water with it not starting and when I get home it will turn over so it's weird. someone mentioned low pressure fuel pump idk

It's a Yamaha motor, do you think a Yamaha certofied mechanic will say, "Nah we do not work on that motor, we just work on these particular years of motors"?

This is as dumb of a post that has ever been posted here and especially since the question was a legit question.

I have a 2004 model with 800 hrs. that acted same way and i changed plugs, low pressure fuel pumps and cleaned O2 sensor. Best $150 dollars and 45 minutes i ever spent. O2 sensor was doubled in size from carbon build up and I chose to try to clean it up by soaking in B12 and scraping with pocket knife and shining up with brass brush, worked great and saved $400 dollars (cost of new one)

Got news for you Douglas J.

Not working on older outboards is becoming a very common occurrence at marine dealerships.

Suspect it probably has something to do with lack of parts availability.

The merc dealers in Dallas won't touch older engines.
Not sure why your response.
His issues sound like carbon build up issues and he never responded to my sea foam question.

Markvos, send me a DM. I’ll talk to you live. Not a mechanic, but I’ve worked on my own Ox66 for years and know them well.

Also look at every wire that comes in contact or might come in contact with the motor . A wire that had the insulation rubbed off from years of rubbing was causing a short that would do exactly like what you are talking about on a friends ox 66 .

Do you have 1? I do and the man is correct. Most will not work on yamahas that old.

Op. Its likely a relay. Cleburne fun-n-sun fixed one for me a long time ago. Not sure if that man is still there but we did the same. Spending thousands to no avail and an hour at Cleburne and he figured it out. I'll see if I can get his name and PM ya.

I don’t know who you used obviously but Hughes Marine in Wylie has always done me good. There’s Bunting Marine in Wylie that I took a Yamaha to years ago and they kinda just threw parts at it seemed like. There’s a guy named Bass Man Randy in Farmersville you could try to.

Plus one on the low pressure fuell pumps. I have a 2000 OX66 150 that had those same symptoms. its a little tedious to do but I did it myself and fixed the problem for me. You just have to be careful torquing the bolts with that aluminum block.
