Well 20 minutes into the road trip I got rear ended going 65-70 mph the Dallas Toll road. Trashed my motor and destroyed his SUV. Only reason I caught him was is radiator was destroyed. Had insurance and now hoping for the best. Limped the boat home and came down without it. On the boat dock fishing. No complaints. No one was hurt. Might be a weak report by the time we get back. Bummer ! Good excuse to get a new boat though, making lemonade out of lemons !

Sorry to hear that. If it means anything, I caught a near lake record hybrid on Palestine fishing off my grandfathers dock. 14lbs. Weighed in at Flat Creek Marina and I think it was around 6 ounces shy of the record. Caught on live shad in the evening. If you are stil there and have a cast net, use that to get a bunch of live shad. Hard to keep alive but well worth the effort.

We caught all the shad we wanted. Fishing off the dock only produced a few nibbles. Beautiful lake can't wait to go back when the boat is running.

I used to fish primarily for whites and hybrids, have switched to crappie for the last few years, I was on the lake this past Sunday, water temp was still 72. I always said it takes two good cold fronts to start the good fall fishing on Lake Palestine. I have seen no bird activity yet on the south end.
Seems to plenty of shad, Just need some cooler water and it will be on.
good luck to everyone

MO I never thought about that but it makes sense thinking about the years I spent a lot of time on that lake. I am hoping this week's weather is enough. Not exactly cold but cooler water will come with rain and the temp won't get above 80.lots of cloud cover. I plan to go to palestine once I hear something good about the crappie bite getting hot.
Some people just like catching. I like fishing.

Mo-I'm so jealous. While I am in my office staring at a computer screen you get to look out across the lake towards Horse Ranch and see the birds. Makes you want to lower the boat and make a quick run over there to check it out! My grandparents lived on the water in Cumberland Ridge and we would sit on the dock waiting for the birds to start working in Saline. I hope ATM is still around...he usually chimes in with good updates on the whites/hybrids.

I hope ATM is still around...he usually chimes in with good updates on the whites/hybrids. I still work 3 days most weeks, but it is nice having 4 days off. There was a time when I would have dropped the boat and gave chase to the birds. . Last fall , I was sitting on a brush pile and the hybrids started busting up about 100 yards away, I did pull up and go check them out. Pretty cool looking at an active school of hybrids on live scope. Caught 3 on crappie jigs, then left them biting. I would just rather catch crappie these days. That is the only time I have fished for hybrids on purpose in several years good luck to all MO
