The storybook fishing trips continue to unfold at Lake J.B.Thomas near Snyder. To hear Christian Gladfelter and Brandon Burks tell it, it’s been like the Wild, Wild West out there.

I cannot remember who it was, but there was a guy they said was fishing 24 hours a day for days on end at JBT.

That is crazy nuts

Fished out there, we got close but didn't land any.

I did learn that staring at the screen for that long wasn't my favorite. I am a livescoper, but that's a whole new intensity out there.

JBT is by far not a secret. roflmao

Not many people will stick it out on Thomas. It can be a phenomenal lake and it can be as hard of a lake as any just to get bit. But when you do get bit, there’s a greater chance of it being over 5 lbs than under.

If you are a hammer with FFS there is probably no better place to be.

I believe now that we are a few weeks from it catching over 13 ft of water there should be a decent chatterbait/spinnerbait and flipping bite in the shallows.

Gonna give the bass a few hours in the morning and then see if I can find some crappie.

This has been going on for a couple of years now. The traveling circus has been through there a few times.

Muddy water, middle of nowhere, terrible accommodations, very tiny pond, no cell phone service and catching the same floating fish that have been caught for 2 years over and over doesn't sound appealing? I mean im 2 minutes away from jumping in the truck right now to start my beautiful 4.5 hour drive!!

There is a reason 2 guides dont keep anything a secret. I dont think many want to put themselves through that for a fish.

This is a particular example of social media making a lake look waaaaaay better than it is. Ya you see the big fish, but you don't see the 1,000 hours of not catching anything. Muddy lake, not scenic, and hard to get a fish to even sniff you bait.

yeah, there's a bunch of bigs there, but they're not easy to catch. I just got back from fishing 2 days with burks and we caught 2 six lbers and he caught an 11.8. We threw on dozens of big fish but they either ignored or would lazily follow. All open water scoping and staring at screen. It's not a very big lake and the way these guys are with LS the bite will only get tougher. Christian boated more fish for his clients every day but he's not head hunting. Burks never slowed down unless he thought it was a dd.

Sounds miserable and expensive. You get a discount for netting the only decent one that bit? Isn’t he 1500 a day?

850 for one person, 1000 for two. Really just wanted to learn LS as the ones around here that are good with it don't want to share info or train.

I fished Saturday and didn't even bother using the scope to look for bass.

Went fish newly flooded brush on the west end of the lake and caught 1 3.5 lber.

Then moved to the main lake and fished the outer submerged brush with chatterbaits and jerkbaits. Caught 8 fish over 4 lbs, jumped off 1 6 lber and had an easy DD come out of a bush and nose up to my jerkbait but wouldn't touch it. Followed it about 10' and then slowly swam off.

Went looking for crappie and put 12 nice fish in the livewell. Decided I didn't feel like cleaning them so tossed them back.

Went offshore with a C-Rig and caught 2 - 5 lbers the first 10 minutes and then didn't get another bite for the next 2 hours.

Had a little over 24 lbs on my biggest 5. Not a great day on Thomas, but would be a great day on just about any other lake.

Only bad thing is the 8 or so 4's that I caught came off one area about 70 yards wide. Went back Sunday morning and caught 1 - 2 lb fish in that same spot. Didn't get bit anywhere else.

Water was just about as pretty and clear as I've ever seen it on the lake.

So much for the days of going out and hitting some rock piles when no one but us locals knew about Thomas.

on tuesday and wednesday the visibility was maybe 8 inches at best. Much cleaner than I was expecting by all the pics I'd seen beforehand. Amazing how many bass are out there around nothing just roaming around.

Have the masculinity challenged “hood rats” shown up there yet? We have a member looking for a peaceful and quiet place to retire, can’t be any music playing dorks there though!

Clear is relative. Visibility was as high as I’ve seen it except for when it reached 75% capacity several years ago.

I know I watched several fish come up and eat my jerk bait. I can’t tell you the last time that was possible.
