Sandbass were nowhere to be seen on the south side between the island and Scott's Marina cove. The very end of murrell point, thumper loud and it was good. Easy limit in 40 minutes, including a few small catfish. Bass bite is good for me early 12-16ft 5 fish limit by 10am is nice for a change. Hopefully I can do it again in the morning.

Hey guys silly question. Which point is Murrell point? Is it the one outside of Twin Coves or the one right out in front of the Murrell boat ramp?

The big point in the cove with the small marina can closed boat ramp just east of the cove with the usable boat ramp.

The red circled area is all I ever fish. [Linked Image]

Fished from 6am to 2 today, green fish bite before sunrise was magical for me with a large Colorado bladed spinnerbait. My fishing mentor found fish last few weeks. I had a 5 fish limit by 10am yesterday, and one before 8 am today and both were over 20lbs. Bite before sunrise was really good, as the sun got higher it got harder and harder. Looked at murrell point, the humps by the island and there were stragglers but not thick schools. Wind was high, so I fished a little more for the green fish. Found monster schools of crappie in brush west of Dove ramp. If you want to catch some crappie, they are stacked on brush right now in large schools. You should be fishing in 15-25 for crappie.

Check this area for big groups of crappie. [Linked Image]

Nicely done on the green fish Prosise! I've fished for bass on Grapevine for 15+ years now and don't think I've ever come close to a 20lb bag. You just did it on back to back days.

Doesn't happen as much as you think. I don't typically shoot for a limit, I just catch as many as I can. But sometimes I will test myself, and see how I do. I have told several people who are thinking about fishing a tournament to just go out and do this and see how they would do if they actually paid to fish in the tournament.
I know I have shared this before, as I am a spinnerbait guy. One thing I love is a huge Colorado bladed spinnerbait slow rolled at night bumping the bottom. This is what I throw, and if your not bumping the rocks your spinning your wheels. I drag it so much it runs the paint off the front of the spinnerbait. I use a 3/4 oz black blue spinnerbait, with a dark trailer and a free trailer hook. The hook is out of the hook, and then a piece of plastic is placed on the hook to keep it from coming off. Short strikes are common in the night. I have this on a med heavy 7'6" soft tip rod, with a old Shimano Calcutta which has a very slow ratio of something like 5:1 with 20lb flouro line. Even with the slow retrieve reel your barely rotating the handle sometimes. To be honest the night bite has been brutal, and they haven't been entertaining the spinnerbait or chatterbait until this week. Hopefully it holds, as the last three years I could catch fish year round with it. This year with the high water event it was totally broken until now.

^^^Great info Prosie! I have mostly caught sandies this week but did get this Smallie this AM. Not a giant but it put up a good fight on a Rooster Tail on the spinning rod. Sucker cleared the water on a couple of jumps.

Hit Lakeview Park this morning and got into a few decent sandbass, bait and little ones were everywhere. Guy pulls up in a boat and I think "Say that looks familiar"...ended up being Prosise chasing the ol green carp. Caught 5-7 keepers, biggest was 14-15 inches (all returned). By 8 am they were done.
Talked with Prosise for a bit, he is a great guy - thatnks for the chat sir!

I went out to Grapevine today to get some practice and familiarity in before I take a kid out for a volunteer event. I messaged Prosise and he was kind enough to meet me on the water and show me a few things. He pointed out a better way to use my sonar (obvious to me now) downscan picks up bladders and bait fine. Lower sensitivity sonar finds bigger fish and ignores the bait. Use both at the same time. Fish the ledges and watch your fish finder.

We picked up more than we wanted at the humps northeast of the island. I kept 20 and we had room for a few more that might die. Kept one more that was dying at murrel point.

It was at murrell point that the most interesting part of the day happened. Prosise and I were steady catching in our boats about 10 or 15 yards from each other. He was casting out far and suddenly said "hey i got a big cat on here. I caught these betore, here, take this."

I trolled over there and took the rod. It didn't take long to realize that Prosise handed me at the very least, and fishing story. She dragged the boat around for an hour and prosise was there to give guidance. At some point he got back on his boat and started fishing again. It's a blur. I think it lasted about an hour, and I was releived when he successfully landed her in the net.

He said he had more fun with me catching it. After that, I'll definitely hand the rod to the next guy - that does seem fun!

Jokes aside thanks Prosise for the catch of a lifetime and a dream of mine since I was a bank fishing kid.

I put together a quick youtube video..unfortunately the video capture glasses only get 1 minute at a time. I wasn't filming during net!

Yesterday was a great day. Like Russ said, I enjoyed seeing him fight that catfish way more that if I had fought her. It was hot with no wind, and not many pleasure boats out was nice. Think lake is trying to turn possibly, water is green and there's some crud on the surface in areas. There is so much bait in the coves that it's almost impossible to fish areas I fished last week. Take care all & had a good day fishing with you Russ.

I ran into Procise and Russ near the humps Northeast of the island yesterday while fishing with my neighbor. They got us on the fish, let us fish next to them and Procise gave me some tips on my new Live Scope. I definitely wanted to say Thank You for that. Russ did a great fishing report and congrats on that catfish!
