^^^^^^^^^^^^^... They're very easy to work on... The grease is a different animal though... Dan

Right now I’m trying to find the hybrid grease. The one place I found over here will just change out the whole hub and I don’t need that, besides being very costly. Gonna try a Triton dealer in Shreveport in the morning.

I use regular grease in mine. After a year of dealing with them vault hybrid goop on my wheels, I changed the seals for the last time. I put Lucas Red & Tacky in mine. Problem free and they run as cool as the vault grease. Same seals, same bearings, same vault caps.

Brakes for trailers dot com has the best prices for Vault parts and the hybrid vault grease Brakes 4 Trailers

If you text that number on the website link above, it is the owners personal cell number. He will respond day/night weekends. Doesn’t matter. He’s always there.

There's a really good trailer shop in White Oak. I've used them a few times and have been impressed each time.

Same here. Works fine. Like Steez said, if you just have to have the vault hybrid grease just order it online.

I have had much better luck using places like this than boat dealerships. Auto mechanics have forgot more about hubs than boat dealerships know.

When my vaults started leaking I swapped to grease seals and bearing buddies.

Even the Vault hub parts dealers recommend this. They said the hybrid oil is just too thin at normal operating temperatures to NOT leak. The manual says “some seepage is normal”. Not normal to me. I hate greasy leaking hubs.

How did you get it in there? The vault system uses a zerk and you pump the grease in through the center of the axle, then preload the vault cap and hammer it on.

You must be thinking oil bath hubs.

I recently was researching vault hubs and how they install them and never mentioned preloading the vault cap. Can you elaborate on that? How do you do that? I saw a youtube video of someone disassembling the cap, cleaning and putting new seals in it.

I am also one of those that pulled out the vaults and went with marine grease and bearing buddies. My trailer sits most of the time as my boat stays at the lake. I had read that regular grease was better for a trailer that does a lot of sitting. Reminds me, I need to pull and repack the bearings as it's been a few years.

Preloading the cap is filling it with grease before installing it

Ahhh. Ok. Saw that on YT and in manuals but never heard someone say preload. Thanks for clarifying.

Yeh. You fill the Vault cap flush with grease, when you hammer the cap onto the hub, the axle, axle nut, and cotter pin displace the grease. This displacement creates “2psi” of internal pressure. This 2psi is supposed to prevent water from seeping in past the seals. I did the same thing with the Red & Tacky grease. It’s been great since.

I put the oil in a grease gun and pumped it in. He pulled the boat back to Big Spring where he was able to get the right grease

If you are just replacing the rear seal, yes. If doing all the bearings and cleaning out the hubs it will take 2 tubes.

It will take one tube per axle. So I’d buy 3, since you will waste some.

FYI, Machis Truck & Trailer Repair doesn’t work on Vault hubs, I ended up getting a tube of the grease @ Jimmy Grainger Outdoors in Shreveport and gonna order a new hub cap from Brakes 4 Trailers when we get back from Bass Champs. Thanks for all the help!

One other? Is the vault grease the same as corn head grease. I have several tube's of John Deere corn head grease already.

It looks like it does the same thing. Thins down when warm and thickens back as it cools.

Is it the same, doubtful. Is it similar, yes. Also similar to cv joint grease.
