1992 Mariner 175EFI. Best fuel treatments & engine cleaners to add to the fuel. I know I don't need any fuel treatment if I use ethanol free, but sometimes I can't get it. What fuel treatment & engine cleaners do y'all use and how often.

I've looked into this quite a bit and I think the main thing is to use quality fuel first and run the motor often. Replace your fuel lines and filter if it hasn't been done in a long time. The mercury brand quickcare and quickleen products are highly recommended on several forums. I have been using Star Tron the last couple of years in all of my boat gas and small engine gas I keep at the house and have had zero fuel issues. I recently ran about 10 gallons of 1.5 year old gas treated with it through a generator without a hiccup.

Look up exactly what it does.

Fuel additive or stabilizer. Whatever they want to placard on the bottle. What is does do, is make the contamination more flammable. Like water and degraded fuel. It helps restore the energy in the fuel. Especially with alcohol additive. Because alcohol absorbs water. It desires water. Adding a fuel whatever, helps the engine burn through it.

They can up sell the bottle by adding a slight amount of thin oil. Saying it'll lube valves and injectors. Something that's never been shown to actually do anything. But the more craap they print on the bottle, the faster it'll sell.

I would run E-free gas only unless every thing in your fuel system has been replaced with the newer hoses etc that can handle ethanol. Ive seen to many older boats run ethanol and the hoses get stiff and inside fuel line starts flaking off. Every 100 hours or so, run a tank with a strong dose of seafoam through it. If you know it will set for more than 4 months treat with red stabil . The green stabil for ethanol is worthless.

You can remove the alcohol. It involves pouring water in it.

Use a container you can see through. The water and alcohol mix together and will separate from the gasoline. With the gas floating on top. Siphon the pure gas off the water. Get rid of the water. Tah-Dah....alcohol free gas.

I have been with all 3 major outboard brands through the years, and every Rep / Tech I have had said I could use Seafoam .

I run it in everything I have from mowers to chainsaws and weed eaters .

My Mercury Outboard motor is my livelihood. I run 92-93 octane and Seafoam 2-4 times a month. I put 250-300 hours a year on a engine.

Motor runs like a top and no issues. In fact two of my previous motors sold to friends have over 2200 hours on them with no issues.

I also NEVER RUN Non Ethanol Fuel.

Lots of opinions out there and to each is his own success.

I know this works for me and I fish probably 200 plus days a year on any given year.

For every Kool-Aid drinker that's claiming they've used Seafoam, Startron, Quikleen, Ringfree, or any other snake oil and never had a problem do you realize there's thousands of people out there who've never used anything and had the same results.
