People are going out buying boats and tow rigs that have never fished so junior can be on the bass team and we're supposed to worry about the cost of FFS? Go fish and have fun with it. Little man is in high school this year so I'm gonna be subject to this mess. hammer

These organizations better be careful banning it at the high school level. Especially if it is not allowed to be in the boat at all. They already have a hard time finding enough captains. Most guys I know are not going to change the rigging on their boat just to donate time to a high school organization. These organizations need to consider this going forward as these FFS rules evolve. I mean if it is something as simple as taking the screen off then I can deal with that, but if they go as far as making people pull black boxes out, I will not be donating my time once my own kids have graduated.

All they have to do is disconnect the plug at the black box and put security (tamper proof) tape on it. Takes less than a minute. If the tape is peeled, it says “VOID” on it.

If it's so shady that they can't tell captains not to use it and the captains abide by the rule they just need to cancel the whole thing. The degenerates in fishing need to be cleaned up.

If that is the case then all tournament fishing needs to be cancelled. From clubs to the pro's.

Yeah checking 150-200 boats and putting a silly sticker on every black box the night before a tournament would cause no issues at all. I'm sure that would be an absolute joy. It's hard for me to imagine any local/regional tournament organization, high school or otherwise, even attempting to take on such a task. If your idea is to just hand the stickers out, what does that accomplish? This is literally the opposite of logic and common sense given the size of these tournaments.

You’re right. By your reasoning, checking live wells is probably a waste of time too. This takes about 30 seconds longer per boat. Have the boat owner (if they even HAVE FFS), have their plug pulled from the box. When they check livewells, they simply stick the tape over the plug end. Not gonna have 150-200 boats WITH FFS. maybe 1/3 of them. Maybe. I’ve seen the flotilla of budget boats that are used by many in HS fishing.

They’ll cheat if that’s all you got to do- you could have an extra cord laying in there and put the void sticker on it..

Or their captain has.

Do the top # of finishers in HS tournaments have to take a polygraph? If so, let it be known there will be a question about FFS usage during tournament (and/or prax) hours??

We give 2 polygraphs per event. First place and then a random.

I wouldn’t count on it being banned.

THSBA has not and, currently, has no plans to ban it.

Just an observation as a captain............ I've seen and talked to a lot of captains who use it. I hear countless stories from teams that spent the entire day chasing fish on a scope and they have one (1) fish at weigh-in. Meanwhile, my anglers are weighing in their 5 and getting a check. Rarely does it play on a constant basis with getting a win......yet.

It should be banned in all tournaments but especially high school. If you re wanting them to have a video game contest just do it on PlayStation or xbox, safer and more environmentally friendly.

Man this got off track. My only point was that all the high school tournament organizations need to consider the rules of the majority of the most popular regional and team trails when looking at rule changes. The reality is that many of the captains that volunteer their time are rigging their boats for those tournaments. Not the high school event. That needs to be a major consideration when these organizations consider new rules. Especially rules regarding boat rigging and technology. After all these high school trails would not exist without boat captains volunteering their time. As crazy as it sounds, captain concerns often get mostly ignored by many of these organizations. Personally I think banning livescope when essentially every major regional trail in Texas allows it would be really really stupid. I know of no high school trail thinking about doing a ban at this time, but I guarantee you it will be brought up by someone pretty much every year going forward.
