Good grief. I’m new here, but maybe I’m on the wrong forum. Lots of bickering and criticism. You'll get used to it and eventually end being just like them. Get access to the bunker and it will happen even faster.

Goodness gracious. Put me in the snob category. I absolutely love refined tackle. I own everything from high-end to budget friendly tackle but I definitely prefer fishing with the high-end stuff. Budget tackle will catch fish, we all know this, but in my opinion, people pay for premium tackle because the user experience is vastly different.
I can tell you that fishing with my Shimano Stradic Ci4 (which was replaced by the Shimano Vanford) combo vs my Zebco/ugly stick combo is night and day. The Stradic combo is just so glassy smooth and premium feeling. I have that paired to an ultralight All-star rod I bought back in the day and is one of my favorite stand-alone combos. I primarily use it for white bass fishing.
I'm currently putting together multiple other fishing combos for different purposes. I've been wanting to do this for years and am now in a position that I have the time to do it. I've started with my panfish series of combos and I have been using a lot of Kastking stuff for this but IMO they are the best budget minded, premium tackle, if that is even a category.
(2) 6', 2" Kestrel ultralight spinning rods paired with Kestrel 1000 SFS carbon reels spooled with 6lb test. One set up is used for microlight lures like Mepps #0s. The other combo is a slip bobber setup for live bait.
(2) 5', 2" Kestrel feather light spinning rods paired with Kestrel 1000 SFS carbon reels spooled with 4lb test. One set up is used for microlight lures like Mepps #0s. The other combo is a slip bobber setup for live bait.
(2) 4', Daiwa Presso microlight spinning rods paired with Daiwa QZ 750 reels spooled with 2lb test. One set up is used for microlight lures like Mepps #0s. The other combo is a slip bobber setup for live bait.
The Kestrel reels and rods are fabulous for the money. Although I didn't like the carbon drag washer in the reels. These are ultralight reels and the carbon washer makes the drag a bit jerky on initial run of a fish and does not provide a smooth linear action. I removed all of the carbon drag washers and replaced them with felt washers that I made myself with a piece of craft felt from Walmart and then coated them with Cals drag grease. This fundamentally changed the drag on these reels and made them linear and buttery smooth.
I think that Kastking used carbon washers as a marketing gimmick. IMO, carbon washers are great in anything other than ultralight reels. Felt is the WTG for ultralight.
And remember, go fishing when you can, cause it's good fer you! -- Richard Gene the fishing machine
