Nice! I used to go fish this point from the bank a lot last spring after seeing a post from Prosise where I was catching them here. Was a decent bank fishing spot if you don't mind a 10min walk on the bike trails.

Prosise, that's a good beat on the thumper....you're likely to attract both sandbass AND party cove inhabitants to your spot!

That is absolutely crazy catching a hybrid on Grapevine they have not been stocked there in many years.

Lets hope not. If you where around in the 80's when TPWD stocked them, then you know how Grapevine went from great to terrible. They never stocked again because the Hybrids ate themselves out of house and home. only thing that survived were catfish. Even the bluegill went to hell. Lake is to small to sustain that population.Before the stocking My largest Crappie was 3.5 lbs after could not find one 6inches long and largemouth nonexistent..I have fished Grapevine since 1978.

Probably came from a bird from Lewisville or maybe someone brought it over. Looks to be a juvenile. It wouldn't surprise me if one came from Bridgeport too. Pretty cool!

I think some of them people were saw down by the rocks might have brought them in. Up to no good, I tell ya!

In all seriousness if there was a species living in this lake, Prosise caught it! Nice to see and we'll make dang sure to check the patches/stripes!

When I say I caught a lot of sandbass, I ain't kidding. (Remember , smaller size spoon). I tried the normal large spoon again, and it sucked. Fish with a couple of suspects until they decided to leave me all alone. I had to fend for myself, but we had a good time. The fish moved out a little deeper, and they are very thick. I had to record a little video because it's hard to explain how many fish are in these schools. Fish are reacting to the bait, I'm popping it and they're reacting to it. But you got to keep your bait down on the bottom, and twitch it up or real three or four cranks. I was using the thumper and I was catching a lot More fish. If you stay off of them and cast to the hump, they won't move very far and you can really catch a lot. The schools are moving, so the livescope really shines. Right off the drop in the deeper water I started catching catfish, and picked up a really big buffalo.

Between the four areas I listed in the past week, you should be able to go to the exact waypoint and check for fish. They are favoring the humps and ledges. I fished around this set of humps for over 5 hours, and I started to figure it the catfish. The Sandbass will not hit the spoon of you move it really slow through them, and if I saw a bigger fish I could weed through the Sandbass to reach the catfish. Saw several schools (6-8 catfish) in a group come in and attack the Sandbass. With 10 braid they were a piece of cake, the drum didn't know it was hooked. After it saw me, it was a 10 minute battle.

I have been getting many questions about the baits I use. I really like the larger shad shaped spoons/slabs, and I am still using two bo-blade baits that were given to me to test. But many questions come regarding the second bait I use above my spoon, slab, or spinner bait. I used to put a lead head jig with a worm above the bait, but I was always having to mess with the plastic worm. So I threw together a home brew bait I call the front runner. Norman lures used to make a top water bait that you could put in front of a large walking bait (top water lure). So I just followed suit, and used parts that I already had. Me and my son find hundreds of baits every year, and rooster tail baits were piling up. So I cut the blade off the rooster tail, drilled a second hole in the end and added a split ring with a treble hook. Now a very important adjustment was needed, the front runner has one of the three hooks cut off. It makes removing two fish from the setup much easier & safer. The other end has a split ring and swivel to reduce line twist. I have been using 20lb big game between the two baits as a shock absorber. Two large (tawakoni) fish will snap the rear bait off so you might have to bump this up to 30lb. The cool thing about this setup is you can leave the bottom bait still, and shake the rod tip off your rod and the top bait will do the best salsa dance for those finicky fish. The little front runner is bullet proof little setup, that really works well. Lastly, the hook size used on most lakes doesn't matter, but on grapevine it will help a tremendous amount. Most of the med size and smaller spoons you buy have a large silver hook, take this off and install a smaller sport sharp hook. I match the width of the end of the spoon with the hook (see pic below). This is very important, and I use really good hooks. If you ever fish around me you will see me sharpen hooks allot. If I catch a fish and loose two in a row, I check hooks for sharpness. I use a diamond file to touch up the hooks to wicked sharpness
I also will paint some of the blades with lighter color finger nail polish (the UV curing types).

I use spinning rods with 10lb braid, with a 10 leader to the bait. This allows me to cast farther and if vertical jigging the bait goes down faster. I do use a bait caster with anything above the med size spoons, as I can work the normal size slabs and spoons correctly. I use an Alberto knot between the braid and mono with a Palomar knot on everything.

My son and I fished yesterday morning. We started off fishing for Crappie and around 10:00 switched to Sand Bass. Since we were on the North side of the lake, we checked Murrell point and found some there. After a bit, we headed to the area by the boat ramp that Mr. P had previously identified. They may have been there but I could not find them. So we headed out into the lake to check the GPS coordinates Mr. P shared above (N32.97581 W97.07755). We should have just gone there first. For a while, we caught fish on virtually every cast.. They were basically East of our boat and we casted to them so that we would not be right over them. I would guess 80%+ were keeper size fish. There was what I believe to be a guide boat in the area and no one else. They were doing well also as you would expect. We had a commitment so headed back to the ramp at 11:30. The bite had slowed down a bit but was still good.

A week or two ago the idea of capturing all the GPS coordinates that had been shared over the years was put out there. I went through the posts albeit fairly quickly and captured the ones I saw. I converted the different formats to decimal degrees. This is what I came up with. It is an image to preserve formatting. Hopefully I did not miss any.

Amazing stuff guys! If you cannot catch a sandie on grapevine with all this detailed knowledge and info... well you might want to take up gardening or knitting.

Brent mentioned this but might be worth mentioning again, google those way points on your cell and then open in maps on your cell, use that to get to the spot then save the way point on your unit once you are there. That has worked for me bcs Lowrance units are a PIA... to me at least.
