The only person I know that did this admits that the reduced electric bill is added to the payment on the panels it is basically a push. He derives satisfaction from having the panels as he is a true believer in human caused climate change, His loan was 25 years which is about the life expectancy of the panels. What a goober. You mean dumba$$.

What has happed to you does not define who you are-
HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!

... Company supposedly told him that in 5 years he will have three options, pay for the solar panels, have them remove them or renew the contract for an additional 5 years. ... So this statement right here tells me this is a lease program with the panel provider. If they can guarantee they will provide his power requirements, and they can provide a battery sufficient to cover nights and multiple days without enough sun to generate then maybe it is an okay deal for him. To me, I cannot figure out how a company can be profitable leasing a panel array for $128/month. The economics just are not there. They will have to make a profit somewhere - government subsidies, hidden fees, installation costs... there will be some sort of revenue for the company in the fine print. Until you find out how they are making money, you have to assume it is going to cost your dad way more than $128/month. Yessir one of them ole ballon payment schemes

If your dad will listen to you and is a good actor, have him call the sales rep back out. Make him spend a few hours answering questions and talking then tell him “let’s do this”. Without signing anything of coarse. When it gets to the ppwk part have him flop a bunch of Monopoly money out on the table and start acting crazy. Then you walk out and tell him he can leave $500 on the table and leave or you will kick his azz thru his stomach for trying to rip off an old man.

My dad did a solar roof deal about 3 years before he passed away. I cannot for the life of me figure out why he did it. He kept telling me that they were free. Any how, once he and mom passed, we sold the house. There was a lien on it for those so called free solar panels , well they deducted $42,000 from the sale of the home for those solar panels. So - the answer is get in your Dads ear and tell him no, no, no......

Our friend has panels and her power bill is $50 to $75 a month. Her panel payment is $230 a month for the rest of her life.

I wouldn't suggest it. They will put a Lien on the property.

I think with a 1600sf house and a $250 average electricity bill he needs to shop rates or look at upgrading insulation. 250 minus 128 is only a a $122/month savings. Solar panels will need to be replaced before payback.
