I am looking for a 12 foot flat bottom Aluminum "jon" boat. Need a clear title. Needs to be fairly new (last 10 years or so). Needs to be rated for a 5 HP motor.
I am buying one for my daughter & son-in-law. I was at Academy looking for a cheap kayak, not to get in, but set up as a stabilizer in case I go for The Giant in the 12 footer of mine. I jsaw a Pelican 12 footer there. Tempting but we want metal, not plastic. As we also do river fishing- stumps & gravel beds, and sometimes stumpy areas at Lake Limestone (you know- "The Giant"'s treadmill area).
I bought a 12' AlumaCraft from Academy back a few years before COVid. It seems somewhere thereabouts they sold to another company. I have yet to find any, other than new 10 footers, unless I've been looking in the wrong places. If you know of someone or dealer, let me know
We are located northeast of Bryan / College Station, Texas about 1.5 miles from the Navasota River. We can pick up if fairly close (100 miles or near that).
If somebody might have one, shoot (rephrase- write) me a price. I just saw a Pelican 12 footer at Academy today Tempting but we want metal, not plastic. As we also do river fishing- stumps & gravel beds, and sometimes stumpy areas at Lake Limestone (you know- "The Giant"'s treadmill area).
Appreciate It!

I'd rather have an older, welded Jon. The new ones don't seem to be built as tough. There's tons out there, but few have clean titles. My old skiff was built in 1958(riveted), and I don't worry when I hit oysters. Good luck, IslandJim

I would too, as my Dad bought a 1962 Elgin 12 footer (actual 11.5 feet) at Sears brand new for about $60. It had a deeper hull & a unique upper ridge you do not see nowadays. It was rated for a 7.5 HP. In 1982, I added several braces in the rear (2 corner & 3 straps on the back), plus a center angle iron across bolted to the oarlock holes and put a 15 HP Sea King Chrysler short stocky shoal motor (weighed 47 pounds).. I could fly up & down the river between 20 to 25 MPH with water only hitting between the middle & back seat, with a little ripple for awake. On hot days, it was great, between lines, getting some cool air. I could even ease out of the back seat to balance the weight & actually go down the Trinity River sideways. You just had to know how to distribute the weight, balance, and power. Sadly, in August-September 1999, I had it chained (new chain) & a new lock on it, down at the second bridge about 1.5 miles down the highway, and due to other items going on, somebody decided to remove or steal it.
Mom told me my Dad came home one day & asked her what she wanted if he was to buy the boat. She said a new dress. He got the boat & she got the dress. It was sturdier than a cheaper one that my Uncle bought several years later (not sure if my Uncle's was a Sears or Ted Williams, and thinner aluminum. I had replaced the rivets for carriage bolts, had two patches welded between the seats (as the aluminum had cracked apart. sideways. And put a 1 inch drain in the rear. If I had water in the boast, I could fire up the motor and open the drain pipe & it would empty out. Even my daughter misses that old family boat, as she started going fishing with me at least by 1985 (at 4 years old).
The AlumaCraft I bought from Academy is OK, but will never match the stability of the 1962 Elgin. I was planning to go down to Academy to get them another one, but sigh, COVid changed that prospect for sure. And of course, I need one with a clean title, so they can legally run the motor, as to all the new rules lately..

Missed the one above, I'll look Tracker Marine up to see if the price is reasonable. Thanks!

Tracker Marine may not be in New Braunsfels anymore, as it redirected me to Houston area. Then when I searched further, it redirected me to a Bass Pro shop (it seems, as that is what emblem showed up in the top left of my screen) for a 1236 Aluminum in Grand Prairie. As it is a Tracker, I figure the price is higher such as like a MonArk, sturdier, but pricier. But I will call for price, just to see. If fairly reasonable, I may get it for me & give mine to Eric & Kristina.
My sister's "V" or semi-Vee 12 foot PortaBote cost her about $1000 back in 2002. It had a warranty of 10 years. It is a fold-up vinyl boat. Currently, the back thinner vinyl fold keel already started splitting at the creases. And the plywood insert was rotting, so I used galvanized flashing on the outside & a lot of silicome, but the bottom seams are starting to seep again. So that is one reason the Pelican plastic flat bottom was not preferred for long term use. The 12 foot Porta-Bote may now be running for about $2000 as per my sister. They are neat, and light, plus have clip on wheels to tote to the water easily. But fall out of one by yourself (that was T-Day 2011),, and you'll never get back in as it is too flexible.

Appreciate it! But we needed one with a title, in order to run a motor legally with. But send the link, in case not to high, we might need a supply boat, which would not need one.
I finally found one currently & waiting on the call, as to when to pick it up.

Appreciate the heads up about Tracker in New Braunsfels! But I wound up getting one in the Waco area at Marineland Boats. One of the salesman was a fellow classmate. I headed up there this morning (Sat. 8-17-24) & picked up a new 2025 Tracker Marine "Grizzly" Tadpole 1236 (same as last years- 2024 Topper 1236. We put it on the top of my van. Me and Allan got to catch up a bit. About 4 other guys in the back helped to put it on my platform that I use on the Geo Metro. Drove back to Bryan 70 to 85 miles worth at 65/67 MPH max. Unloaded it this evening when cooler. However, I was wet when done. I had about 150 foot of 1/4" solid braid nylon rope utilized. Of course, it ate a tad bit of gas on the way back. I used about 1/8th going up, but down to 3/8 getting home. Anyway, I got along great with everybody here. I even told a few catfish stories.
The reason I went for Waco was it was closer (at least by half), and I had another stop needed -- my Dickey's Sliced Beef sandwich & Dickey's sauce fix. Sadly it seems they do not keep bottles of sauce for sale. So one of the guys got me a little extra to take home. Our Dickey's here in CS, closed a year or 2 before COVid-19. My last fix was in October 2020 near Conroe & I brought back 5 or 6 bottles of Dickey's sauce. And it was a dry spell the past 2 years to get more.
