And that is what I'm getting ready to do, 6000+lbs of travel trailer. Looked at a 2021 Trail Boss today with a 5.3, 10 speed transmission, 75,000 miles. Just not sure at this point.

In my opinion it’s just not enough truck for that type of towing.

I found a low mileage 2019 Tundra with a 5.7 and it pulls my TT with ease. I will start a gofundme for gas. grin

It’s not the weight, it’s the size of the thing. Travel trailers catch a lot of wind and can have a lot of sway. Towing a 6000lb travel trailer and a 6000 lb boat are not equivalent. Maybe you’re a better driver than me, but I’ve seen too many folks white knuckling it out west on mountain passes and high desert when the wind kicks up with half ton rigs for me to ever want to do that or recommend it to anyone. There are videos of travel trailers catching wind and rolling the whole truck on a TT with a half ton.

This is why I now drive a 3/4 ton. I've had pleasant tows with a half ton but I've also had some nightmares. Brakes tend to suck, too.

Yep. Most half tons will walk and talk with a 5000-6000 lb boat, but there just isn’t enough size to muscle around a travel travel if it catches wind.

I tow a 25ft center console with my Silverado 5.3ltr and I have done this for 10 years with absolutely no problems whatsoever.

12-13 MPG though. It pulls better than the 7.3 Power Stroke I had.

My 2019 GMC 5.3, 8spd tows my BassCat like it isn't there................or it did until the 8 spd transmission took a dump last week at 75K. Extended warranty covered a new transmission. Only problem is the 8L90 trans is on national back order with no ETA. Loacal dealer has 2 in the shop (now 3 counting mine) that have been waiting on trans for 2+ months.

Well, I also own a 2019 GMC 5.3 with 8spd transmission, and the issues I've been reading about concern me. I don't have an extended warranty, but I only have 38k miles on my truck and it sounds like it normally breaks around 65k-75k on average according to my local trans shop. Shop owner told me it will probably happen to mine, just a matter of time he says. On average, he sees 3 of the 8spd trans a week at his shop. I'll probably keep driving and if it breaks, I'll get it fixed.

This truck with a 5.3 pulls my 19' bass boat great!

Has your trans been flushed and fluid changed out to the newer Mobil 1 formula? There's a TSB from GM directing this. My trans started acting up badly around the same mileage as yours. Dealer did a flush and all was great until a couple weeks ago and when it began acting up again and it was decided to replace the transmission under warranty. Since there's no projected timing on a new trans, looks like I'm at the mercy of GM and pretty much SOL.

Cmack, my local trans shop recommended not flushing/changing trans fluid at this time. He said it is a temporary fix and after a few months, trans will fail anyway. Only way to fix is a rebuild using different parts he said. I plan to keep driving, but I could change my mind later and sell/trade for a different manufacturer. I'm disappointed in how GM has handled some of their issues the last few years. Might be my last GM product!
