Why not just straight up buy catfish food? The floating pellets?
It's in the bag next isle over from the range cube.
Because they float. Fair enough. I made a dough bait from some. Didn't work. Smart catfish knows it's supposed to float. You had to toss your line in a group of them feeding on top. Getting lucky as it dropped through. Caught a 4# doing that(one fish). I should've rigged a nug to where it floated.

I made punch bait using floating catfish food as a base, grease from a barbecue place, salt, shad and flour, cattail fuzz. Probably 100 gallons of it. Kicks azz, still use it. Use the cubes to get em in the area, soured Milo to get em fired up and punch bait, salt cured shad, liver,or beef fat on my rods.

If you feed them in the same spot everyday they will work for you. When you put them out just fish a slip float about 2FT deep until the floating pellets start to sink.

I guess Alabama catfish are different. Last Saturday, i chummed three different spots. Used Danny King, Berkley Catfish, and nightcrawlers. Not a single bite. Last year I bought a tub of Stubby's cheese bait and had zero results as well. Channels, like their blue and flathead relatives, just prefer cut bait.
I just need the TVA to open a couple of gates and have the surface temps drop back into the 70's. 85+ degree water is making them feed at night and rest during the day. At least we have fun catching bluegills on ultralight tackle.

If you chummed with the tractor supply brand range cubes, that is there was the problem. I have started using the purina brand range cubes from the local feed store and let me just say every single time i have used them itโs been nothing but live action. I have had very very success chumming areas in the 8-12โ range at the mouths of small coves or creek channels and fishing the area with slip floats set up.
Good luck. ๐๐พ
