Need a little help, taking the family out to do some catfish tomorrow and catfishing is not my thing. I have not gone catfishing in like ten years. I am taking some shrimp and dan kings punch bait. Which i was thinking of fishing with a bobber and split shot. Anyone have any tips or ideas. I hope they are shallow and plentiful.

Recently seen some new marker buoys up the devils a little bit but they seem to be in in 10-15ft. Does anyone have any idea if that’s a good option for some pan size channels.

Well just want to let everyone know that we had a good day even though we dont catfish, but today we did pretty good. We were able to get on a bunch of blues and channels around the 406 area. We found an old jug sitting in around 30ft of water. I didn’t have anything to chum with but i was able to look in my freezer at the house and found an okd bag of cook salad shrimp. Who would have know that channels and blues love salad shrimp. I we used them as bait and as chum. The salad shrimp really got the bite going. We endd uo moving spots and found another okd jug just past 454 head to San Pedro area that was sitting in like 20 feet of water. The salad shrimp came in clutch again after using them to chum the area the bite was on like Donkey Kong. We didn’t catch anything big but had fun with the numbers we were able ro catch.
What dlearned that salad shrimp and Danny king punch bait are a deadly combination.

The Danny king punch was blood flavor. I thought i had picked up the cheese one but i didn’t have my glasses on when i bought, either way it worked great and those channels and blues didn’t mind it. It would have been nice to get in to some bigger fish but it was a good day regardless.

These are the two spots i was able to set up at. The next time We go out I think we will try a little harder and bring something to chum the area with. Maybe we will get lucky and catch a limit or two.

Very nice! I recently discovered Danny King's punch bait, and it works great for channels in the creek I fish near me. I also have the blood flavor.

I have used the cheese flavor in the past probably around 2009 when i went fishing for cat fish last and i must say i would catch fish but this was normally during the winter. I am older now and when someone goes out fishing with me i want for them to enjoy themselves and catch some fish.rather than just watching me chunk crank baits/jerk baits all day. Turning and burning is the way i grew up fishing in the early eighties and that’s what i enjoy doing, but when i look at the peoples face that go with me i can tell they are a little sad. So i am changing my ways just a little and try to be more accommodating to people and do a little catfishing. Maybe this way everyone will have some fun.
Good luck

Many years ago my father and grandfather would take me to Amistad for a weekend of catfishing with a guide named Gene Piel. It was usually during the summer and the lake was higher back then than it is now. We would only fish the flooded bushes along the shoreline in 8-10ft of water. A bobber with a shrimp about 3-4 feet below the float was all we used and we caught a ton. I imagine Gene had spots baited out as we would pull into a protected stretch of shoreline and slowly work up and down the shoreline pitching our bobbers right up to the edge of the brush. Let it sit for 2-3 minutes then reel up and pitch to a different spot.

Someone told me to try fishing water around 5-10ft deep. I think it might be a little to warm but hey what do i know i dont really fish for cat fish. If i get a chance to go out this weekend i might just try that. I do know that the cooked salad shrimp worked great as chum but i only had a small bag and probably cut them way too big but it did work. I did notice that the mayflies are ending their cycle and the fish were all over them this weekend and the fish i had in the live well had a ton of them in their stomach.

What i did notice was that they were a little suspended off the bottom, a few feet.

I just finished rigging up a pair of rods with slip corks and going to give that a try. I will bait several places and see how it goes. If it doesn’t pan out I’ll probably head over around the dam and bait a spot there. The bait fish and the white bass have been pretty active there. The white bass and large mouth have been chasing bait fish around that place pretty good but the bite it’s that great because they are all over the place. Maybe i can get some cat to stay i a small area if i bait it up. I am pretty sure they are they cleaning up all the leftovers, who know i might get luck and get into a school of bigger channels and blues due to all the action in the area.
Hopefully my next trip fills the freezer.
Ill send pictures of where i chummed just in case anyone wants to hit them up. I know i wont be able to fish them all so maybe someone will get lucky.
