I grew up in a trailer. Doing pretty well for myself now Same here. Small one out in the county. Then Dad bought a bigger trailer and finally built a stick house. The same size as the old trailer. I lived a country song. Dad worked road construction. Blade operator. Mom was a hairdresser. I don't remember being poor. I was the kid that had a real dirt bike. Not some mini bike. It was a wore out POS but still. I was so embarrassed growing up but now regret it. Wasted so much time being ashamed unnecessarily. Dad borrowed a front end loader and dug a pond. I stocked it with crawdads. My own little private lake. Feeling ashamed? Nah. Being humble makes for a less stressful life. At least that's my experience. If I had 2million dollars. I'd be walking on egg shells everyday. Thinking someone else wants to take it away or cheat me out of it.

Hoping to one day upgrade to a trailer.
Big 5th wheeler. Head to cooler latitudes in the summer.
Olds might have $2MM+. Youngsters will need $10MM when they become olds. Personal ownership will decline every year.

In early 1981 the bride and I bought some land and cleared it. The interest rates were up; I got a mobile home on a VA loan -- at 16.5% -- and we moved in. Although we planned to build a brick house when our finances permitted, once the bride saw how much neighbors' taxes went up when they did so, she informed me that there was no way we were going to pay that much in taxes every year. I lived in that mobile home for over 41 years, until I retired and bought a house in Harlingen. I never felt embarrassed about living in a mobile home. The money I saved just on taxes, and on a 15 year mortgage versus 30, went a long way toward paying for the house I'm in now. Although I had medical bills approaching $2M after the bride died, I've never been worth anything near that. As long as I can pay my bills and go fishing any time I feel like it, I'm good. I have a quiver of fly rods ranging from half weight to 12 weight, and a fine collection of light & ultralight conventional gear. I have a state of the art poling skiff to fish out of. What else do I need?
