No, I'm considering moving out of some stuff. At least partially, at least to the point I can offset with a couple losses I have. I have a fair amount in cash type assets that are making about 5.2 percent. I'm considering padding those balances a bit more, get some bonus powder dry, I feel heavy in a couple positions and sectors and lighten up a bit. At 53 I still have time but I'm getting tired of 3 steps forward 2.5 steps back. In my mind I really don't want to expose myself to annual losses that exceed my annual interest income. Basically on a bad year I would essentially break even. If I can average 7 percent for the next 5 years I should be set up to cruise into retirement. As long as it's easy to make 5 percent with zero risk why take much risk. I have stood firm for a long time now and rode out a few nasty markets as many of you have. I'm ready to let the saddle sores heal.

Ok so I took a bit of cctx advice. I just moved a chunk of certain positions I felt over exposed in to cash. I just moved out of a bunch of stuff in Ira accounts to cach type position. We are gonna keep a close eye on 2 other positions with an exit target. So as it sits now half my financial instrument portfolio is in MM or tax free bond type positions yielding between 4.2 percent tax free and 5.2 percent at current mm funds rate. The other half is in stocks with 3/4 of those paying various dividends. I'm still bank stock and energy heavy but can't wash the gains on those positions at this time. I don't know if I'll sleep better but I won't have as much volatility and I have a bucket of cash ready in the event of a buying opportunity.

I wish I had your problem. A profitable business would be a nice headache. Restaurants are a labor of love and I don't love them any more lol

I’m extremely diversified.

I have a lot more in cash than I like

I want to move about 25% of it into the market.

My diversification is actually doing very well.

BUT

the delusion of grandeur is very strong.

For now, I’m resisting a move.

Strong work.
You are 60% of the way there.
Sell ownership in the restaurant and then this will be you in three months.

The way my industry is now I'm not factoring the sale of that in at all. I'm probably there now but for what I need, it's a matter of what I want at this point. I have said in past I want a retirement with zero principle burn and the total amount of principle to pass on to next generation. Split 2 ways it won't make them trust fund kids but it will smooth out a lot of bumps and bruises for them. A reasonable sale price for the business would be a cherry on top.

The yutes will only be driving less and less; ordering tiny meals from grub hub, not putting back beer after beer.
….and being more and more trend conscious and fickle….changing their culinary preferences every six months.
The time is now.

When people could smoke at the bar; you stay eight hours and get a cab home.
You can’t camp out anymore running up a huge bill.

…and the yutes have found this server bloke in Australia and are getting all games/everything streamed to them for like $15 a month. They see no reason for communal gathering for any events.

My portfolio is small. Best I've done was put 10% in silver.

Bought between $14 and $16. Today's price is $31.45. If if was an investment, which it is not. 50% return.

When y'all talk about 5%. How does that figure when inflation is estimated at 24%?

you hope that it returns to historical averages. and you do need to keep a portion of portfolio in some well thought out growth positions.

Heck I thought a couple of years ago the market had peaked (temporarily) and I moved some money out of stocks into the MM. This is not a bad time to do the same IMO, even though I am not making that move yet. Being 67, I no longer participate in a 401K, but if I did, I'd probably do something like a 70/30 stocks/safe/stuff allocation right now. I was always pretty aggressive as far as stocks/safe stuff in the 401K. I held on throughout the dot.com burst, the 2009 near depression, whatever it was in the early nineties Gulf War deal. Always liked mutual funds, they treated me well for the most part. In the long term stocks will outperform money market type stuff, with mm's you're basically keeping pace with inflation.

I just turned 50 so I'm in a holding pattern. I moved some of my funds into gold and silver when [censored] got elected and and have done just ok. I also have a big chunk locked in a annuity that I don't want to touch for another 10 years. Overall the last 4 years have been okay. I will re-evaluate after the election.

What are you living off of for 3 months to throw your entire salary at it?

Living off my wife’s salary, putting my pension in savings, got a new career for “blow money”. Completely blessed. Im dumb with money, the wife is smart. She set us up for success years ago.

I can’t even say I’m in the stock market really…just throwing it all on company stock

My kids will end up getting most of my investments. I just hope they don’t spend it all and pass some of it on to my grands
