Back before Nac was developed, dad and I would set lines in the evening, brush crash a campsite on the bank, and then run the lines a couple times through the night. No tent and just river coffee. We did quite well doing that. One night, somebody cut our lines up right in front of us, and we didn't hear them. The lines were legal, tagged properly and deep. We guessed it was a ticked off bass fisherman. Got any stories?

Forth of July on lake keystone with my family and my cousins from Kansas, early 70s. Wind was wicked and they were trying to put up a cover for shade. Took everyone around us to help get it done. Good times!

Back when I was between wives, I'd take the dog and tent camp for a week at a time during deer season in the Davy Crocket NF. Before that, buddy and I would regularly walk up the Trinity River at Vance's Camp and carp fish all night. Not really camping, just hanging out around an old Coleman lantern.

When I was a young boy, I spent a lot of time with my grandfather, grandmother, and 2 uncles that lived in Austin. We would pack up the car with cots, lanterns, fishing poles, 22's, minnow seine and trot lines. Notice I said nothing about a tent. Hard to believe my very religious grandmother would allow it, but we would sneak on to somebody's property on the Lampasas River. We swam, fished, shot the 22's and set out trot lines. We got our bait by seining the river and turning over rocks for hellgrammites. Sometime late at night, we would go back out to the trot lines, gather the fish we had caught and re-bait the hooks. Although my grandfather did not eat fish, he would clean the catfish we caught and take them home to have a fish fry.
I distinctly remember laying in my cot, looking up at the sky and just being in awe of all of the stars. That place we used to go to has been gone for years. Filled in and over with dirt.

Never caught a thing at Vance's camp.

So many great memories. Going to make more next week. Love to camp. Love to explore in vehicle and on foot. I call it my adventures.

Sleeping on top of a van down by the river. How many years? Sorry, but that’s funny right there.

Sweating with mosquitoes everywhere. +1. Food typically sucked. Hot. Cold. Uncomfortable.

Bow hunting elk in southern Colorado in 2020. Camped at about 9600 feet and on day 5 it starts snowing. It’s mid September and about 60 degrees so we figure it will pass quickly. By nightfall there’s 5 inches on the ground and it’s snowing harder than before. We pack everything in the truck in about 15 minutes and head down the mountain. We hadn’t had cell service the whole time and when we got on the highway and we heard on the radio they were expecting 12-15 inches overnight. Glad we left when we did.

Spent two years homeless and a kept a journal.
Out of my control, homeless. Worked my way out cleaning toilets.
I slept in the cedar trees. Hammock. Bug spray I'd steal. A VA concealer remarked I was the cleanest homeless person she's seen. If I signed up for therapy pool. A nice hot shower was required.
Well, No $hit. It's field craft.
I love a hammock tied between two trees.

This civilization is for the birds.... A hammock and a couple of trees is the only thing I need. There's plenty of places I can go where people believe in me... This ash tray and this paddle game, the remote control and this lamp And thats all I need, I don’t need anything else

Started my work at a county park cleaning toilets/bathrooms, picking up trash/grass and watering with reclaimed water. I have no sympathy for anyone.
