It’s nice to see normal as we are well into those 2017 normalcy year patterns on the bass market. Mercury and others primed their lines to run during the largest market expansion we’ve seen since the mid 1980’s. No way that was sustainable as they reached to expand when their foreign competition couldn’t.

SC-001 is right in the only thing that will bring them down is the coming of a Great Recession. That’s money losing survival modes, cut your losses if you can and operate. During the 1980’s and 2009 (‘10) era downturns people bought less all the way around also. Less boats, less boat, less gear and settled for less in some cases. During the 1980’s downturn the market lost 66% of HIN registrations. That’s 66% of bass boat builders that went out of business during that economy. A solid number was lost in fall of 2000, before 9/11/2001, when OMC filed bankruptcy, as did many others.

Then there are those which had an incident that drives them to buy, when they otherwise wouldn’t, much like totaling a truck, or blowing an engine. There are all sorts of driving forces that control markets. Most on the comments here are based on their finances and plan over time. Not everyone’s on the same financial plane.

i owned quite a few boats over the years and always felt the need to upgrade during the years when I felt like I could and for all of those years I seemed to always wish I still had my first Pantera ll that I bought from Val Poe in the early 90's.

The pandemic made plenty consider their mortality, I knew several people that passed away from covid. I'm sure many thought might as well enjoy life while you can and buy that boat you've been wanting but really couldn't justify... and a bunch of boats got bought.

There are probably a lot of people waiting things out, with the general economic environment, primarily cost of goods and interest rates, really holding people back. And I’m referring to people who have the means and desire to purchase but choose not to out.

I am in the market for another boat. I am an able buyer. I’m torn between being cautious with my money and realizing also I’m not getting any younger.

Very true…..

I think there’s lots of prudent people sitting on there cash right now.

Having said that…

Prices never go down…

I have been watching used boat prices as I will be selling my Bass Cat next spring, and it seems like there is some downward pricing pressure over the past 4 or 5 months based on what guys are selling their used rigs for. I was in a COVID bump industry like the fishing industry was in and it pulled a lot of demand forward (e.g. been thinking about buying a bass boat and accelerated the purchase because I now "work from home" three days a week so I am getting one now). Many other COVID bump consumer goods spaces still haven't gotten back to the glory of 2H of 21 and 22. Pleasure boat sales are sluggish this year from one article I saw a couple of months ago. Hope it holds together until I can sell my boat and switch over to a cooler type of fishing where the bass aren't pounded 7 days a week and get their brains turned to jello with FFS pings constantly smile

In my case Im holding my boat another year, if i were to sell i'd take a big loss. I see prices of new boats falling now. all these people that bought in 2021 to 2023 will prolly be in the same situation.

I bought just before the big jump and mine has kind of settled back to what I paid for it probably minus natural depreciation. I'll probably hang on to mine for another year or two and then buy a new or newer one with all the latest and greatest on it, if I'm still doing the high school thing. Either way, the one I have right now is going to get some upgraded electronics.
