During two a days in high school our trainer would bring out the Wet Bulb testing equipment before or during the afternoon practice. If it was too high we'd end up practicing in pants and helmets... They didn't do it in college... Haven't heard the term since 1979-80... Dan

Our paint contractor used it all the time to determine when the conditions were right to paint piping and vessels. Too wet and it wouldn't adhere to the steel back in the day.

According to the "wet-bulb" calculator you need a temp of 90 F and 85% humidity to hit the fatal zone.

It's a bad time of year for the elderly, they can get dehydrated fast. My Dad wound up in the ER Wed. Topped off his fluids and he was good to go.

Time to warn everyone that it's hot in the summer. We never knew until the global warming lunatics told us.

I love it that we have to have TV to tell us it's hot.

Sling Psychrometer comes to mind. Used it in the USAF as a jet propulsion specialist.

Wet bulb globe temperature has been used for the work-rest cycle in the AF at least since I enlisted over two decades ago

The Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) is an indicator of heat related stress on the human body at work (or play) in direct sunlight. It takes into account multiple atmospheric variables, including: temperature, humidity, wind speed, sun angle, and cloud cover. Why is it called WBGT? This differs from heat index. Military agencies, OSHA, activities associations and many others use the WBGT as a guide to managing workload or activity level.

Yes definitely not new.

It’s the only way to calculate relative humidity, aside from more modern instruments used today. Used one for about 20 years fighting wildfires. You just need a table.

Wet bulb temp alone is kind of an irrelevant number to most of us. But it’s a part of the equation to calculate humidity.

Pan's was that way every day during the rainy season.
