So how does trailer renewal work in TX?
In May I get pulled over for having an expired tag, it was 07/06 I think, almost a year out. My bad!
So I get it renewed, get the ticket waived.
I looked at my plate over the weekend, and noticed the new tag expired 07/07. So when I paid my $40 in May to renew, they just renewed up until the next renewal month?
I thought when you renewed you got a year out from whenever you renewed it.

No, the tags will always expire on the same month. Look at it this way...you got to use the trailer for the year, but you paid for the registration in the 10th month and not the first. If they were going to give you the sticker for the full 12 months from when you bought it, you'd pay for a full year plus the 10 months that you didn't get it renewed.
Renew it when it's due and you'll see a full on the sticker.

You can also request to renew for two years at a time, and of course you pay two years registration at that time.

No I'm fine with what happened, I just wanted to make sure that's what did indeed happen. I wonder if there's a penalty if you've not registered for a number of years...hmm...
Thanks for the info!!

I know that when I had let a trailer tag expire and went to renew it about 6-7 months later, they asked if I had gotten a ticket. I said no because i had not used it and didn't want to pay for something I wasn't going to use. They looked it up anyways and said nope, you didn't get a ticket. They then registered it for the next 12 months. They said if I did get a ticket, then I would have had to pay for that time that had expired.

I just renewed one last week that was expired in 11/06. They asked me if I'd got a ticket and I said no which was true. I have not been using the trailer. She had me sign something saying no ticket and I got it renewed for 12 months. The new one expires in July 08, and the price was the same as on my renewel notice as if I'd renewed in November. I asked her what would have happened if I had gotten a ticket and she said I could take my new receipt to the judge and get the ticket dismissed. That sounds too good to be true, because I can't imagine them passing up the chance to make money off of a fine for driving with expired plates. But, that's what the lady told me....Jon

Well I know you can get your ticket dismissed, that's what happened to me. I got pulled over in May for expired tags, got my new stickers and went back to the courthouse the next day, had to pay a $10 court fee, but no ticket.
I guess because I did get that ticket, it was not renewed for 12 months, just the duration of what I should have paid for.
Makes sense to me...

AT least you got the ticket dismissed, the last one I got was 120.00. for expired tags. Good thing he didnt ask about the booze and hookers.
