Not sure how old it is and it has a cheap Amazon garbage sight on it. Rail was added by previous owner.

Compare with similar at one of the online gun trader sites. Me, I won't ever sell my 336.
Fishing, a man knows a serenity of soul and peace of mind that he finds in doing nothing else, and it makes no difference whether or not he catches anything. The mind of a true fisherman is not on petty subjects.

Back tracking it. It's anywhere between $600 to $1300. Laminated stock, brush blue, 30-30.
Average price is $1000. (Very Good)
I believe that particular model is discontinued. Which doesn't matter. Neither does the accessories.
I'd say list for $1100. Let the buyer walk you down to $900. $850 bottom.

Unless the kids are hungry I see zero point in selling a firearm - ever.

Bought an almost identical one in top shape about ten years ago for $400. You can probably double that now.

I use to buy, shoot, and sell. Just to hold it in my hands. Experience it.
But I've always had the permanent. The basic three. Handgun, shotgun, and rifle(s). I have enough handguns, shotgun, and rifles for the rest of my life. The only thing displayed is the Remmy Fieldmaster. 1985 vintage.
The rest are tools. They're lucky to be cleaned. Scratches do not matter.
Besides the HK USP I had titanium nitride plated.
Long story short. Nothing is for sale and it will never be for sale. Throw everything in my coffin.

As for that Marlin?
I'd run a box of ammo through it and sell it.

I come up with 400 to 600 looking at recently sold comps. If someone will give you more, jump on it. What a book tells you vs what they recently sold for are very different.

I'll buy it right now, bank transfer, for $400.

I think this is good advice but I would go down to $600 if you need to sell. What someone tells you a gun is worth is like your property tax valuation. All conjecture till you have successfully sold it.

Market price depends on if it has a JM stamp on the barrel.

Is this a Remlin? Was the receiver drilled for the rail mounting ?

I'll give you $500 bank transfer and then hire you to come do some more trees.

Marlin 336 prices hereUnless something very unique (i.e. stainless steel, highly sought caliber like .35 Remington ... ) even JM stamped 336's in .30/.30 are running from $750-$1000 avg. The stock and rail plus if it is not a JM specimen is going to count against your top pricing. Bluing looks really good in your pics. Illion models are not well thought of. But in the long run it is worth what you can get someone to pay for it.
