Do wraps even have the advertising impact they had just 5 years ago? I might be alone but I rarely pay any attention to a wrapped boat any more.they are so common and so many of the wraps are so busy that nothing really stands out on them either. All it ever did for me----made it easier to recognize who was siting where I wanted to be.

It’s a red flag with the IRS. You basically need to treat it like an arms length type deal and not do anything differently that what a business your size and in your industry would typically do. I remember reading about a couple that bought a boat and charged back their company a fee to take clients out on a regular basis. They ended up in a lot of trouble. Its a red flag to deduct a wrap for a boat for advertising a business? Same thing as buying T Shirts, Business Cards, Billbord, SEO, etc. If I wrapped a boat I would deduct the cost of the wrap. If you only deducted the cost of the wrap that would be ok. But most people I talk to or on this thread are talking about deducting a portion or all of the cost of the boat. That is the red flag and won’t pass muster with the IRS
Retirement best job ever.

There is a whole lot of gray areas in the tax code, especially when you are talking about business expenses. If you can show that your fishing directly involves or impacts your customers or suppliers then you are probably okay. For example if you are an insurance salesman, then fishermen are your target clients for boat insurance. Or if you are in real estate in a region near a lake. Likewise if you are constantly taking your customers or suppliers fishing with you.
But if your business is not boating/fishing or adjacent industry, then an auditor may question writing off these expenses. Doesn't mean you'll have problems per se, but simple questions lead to more complicated questions, and complicated questions from the IRS are never a good thing.

Even then you can only deduct the cost of the trips out. Trust me if you could just easy least deduct a new boat for “business expense” I’d probably go ahead and get a new one even though I don’t need it

My last 3 boats were wrapped. I have a "Sub-chapter Corporation" for my fishing business. I frequently take clients fishing. I write off boat payment, insurance, storage, & maint. Just know that this business can only lose money 4-5 yrs or it will throw up a red flag. It has to show income & expenses every year to be legit.
I did the same when I was guiding and owned the wrapped fully enclosed boat trailer. I've been audited one time in 40 yrs and it was only for a small portion of my tax return involving meals
