I'd love to hear how your trip went. I fish down there several times a year, still hoping to catch a snook. Where'd you fish? How was the guide? IslandJim, in Rockport

32 inches 11 pounds. Thanks for the recommend last year (all of y'all!) Pre-dawn launch off 48 west of Port Isabel. Cast netted large mullet live under float free-spooled in current from Monday rain. Only one landed but Pamela and I fished hard eight hours. Captain Brian is a consummate pro! Lots of other species -- ladyfish, mangrove snapper, barracuda (??!!) including a jack crevalle I trolled up on jighead and Texas Croaker pattern DOA lure.

Thanks, BNagel. A snook like that is the last thing on my bucket list! If I wasn't an old geezer, living on Sociable Security, I'd be down there fishing with Brian. I've fished the Brownsville Ship Channel many times in my skiff, but have never found the snook. Someday.........IslandJim

Before 7 a.m. alongside a recently installed dredging pipe (with prop marks and other snaggable features!!) Had to "horse" her over that as part of the fight. Without someone who fishes the area 300 days a year, his new boat and twenty years' local experience, it would not have happened for me. Snook like ambush conditions, dirty water (fresh end of saltwater, salty end of freshwater flow). Ladyfish feeding and mullet reacting were all I saw on top. We fished other spots, too, and saw a few juvenile tarpon "rolling." We plan to go again some time, focusing on other species first. Snook package is intensive on the ship channel, at least this time of year. Hope I haven't given away any of Captain Brian's secrets!!

Brian is awesome. We get to fish together every once in a while. It’s always a blast. I do all of his electronics installs on his boats. The X3 is huge! My new 24mod V is going to be setup up pretty similar to his boat. I havnt not picked up the raptors yet but I have all the other stuff.

A week after we went, Captain Brian's pics (on FB) from a lucky couple on the snook package have us drooling for a fall trip. By us, I mean Pamela, who does NOT like missing out. I get to catch up with her sometimes!

Grats and thanks for sharing-it brings back memories. Grew up fishing for snook is south florida as a kid many years ago. My biggest was a 36 pounder. I always said I would go down and hit the channels /mangroves just to catch another. One of these days....
