I feel your pain Bob. Thumbs have been popping and locking up for a few years, now a few other finger joints are joining the party. Then there’s the knees and elbows. I’m broken down frankly Oh no. Sorry to hear. Both of your thumbs? This getting old stuff is not for the feint of heart man. I haven't thought about CBD. I have been taking Glucosimine (sp.?) and Quonol 10 because I take a Statin for high cholesterol. I've had both knees scoped, Spine fusion at L5/S1, and full LH hip replacement, so now that I can walk good, my thumbs go to shiz. WTH? Then again, I have seen 70 years on this planet. Steve, you sure have a great sense of humor my friend!

HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!

Bob and Dawg, there are a lot of stretches that can help...I'd look at those targeting the flexors and extensors in the forearm.
IConn, you should probably go get a massage from someone that knows what they are doing. Yours sounds like it's most likely starting in the cervical spine.

Welcome to the club. Anything ending in itis is part of growing up. Work them out, use heat and/or cold, occasionally take an NSAID.

Could be trigger finger as well. I forget the medical term for it, but it’s a common issue for old people. It can be treated.

I googled it. Heat as in hot water does feel good on the joints. Fingers are fine, just both thumbs. Why do y'all suppose it is worse in the morning? Is it lack of blood supply to the extremities during sleep?

Try putting a tennis ball in the palm of your hand and taping you hand shut to see if that helps.

I googled it. Heat as in hot water does feel good on the joints. Fingers are fine, just both thumbs. Why do y'all suppose it is worse in the morning? Is it lack of blood supply to the extremities during sleep? I had bilateral pronator teres syndrome in late 2016 through mid 2017. It was brought on when we got a hydraulic massage table at the university. I had wanted it for my para and quadriplegic clientele. I had gotten so used to using a stationary table that I would just eyeball the table height when raising it and this threw off my body mechanics so much that it inflamed my pronator teres muscles in both forearms. The pain is similar to carpal tunnel, but it affects different muscles and nerves. My fingers/wrists/arms were so painful I'd wake up crying and beg my arms to be cutoff. Working actually made it better, but due to the nerves being impinged, I had pain and weakness. The pain did lessen significantly during the day while working. Then at night, WHAM-O! One of my best friends that now works for NASA showed me some stretches after I finally told him what was going on and coupling the stretches with massaging my own forearms corrected this issue. During this time, my fingers were stiff and felt rather swollen...only the index fingers on both hands were actually swollen however. You may be experiencing something similar.

Get you some DSMO from a Vet. Use to use it for sore muscles from pumping iron. I got mine from a horse trainer that swore by it and yes it worked.
