When I lived on the coast. Always thought big shrimp boats sitting on 55 gallon drums in a front yard in Arkansas Pass was a nice touch. Also wondered how they got there.
Thanks, Billy

We love oysters. But you're correct, we don't get them after the bay temp goes above 55 degrees. One episode with an amoeba will pretty well cure you from that particular activity. Living here also will make you an oyster snob. I'll only eat them when I get them off the boat, never ever in a restaurant, you have zero clue where they come from or how long they've been sitting.

There's absolutely a big gap in commercial fishing circles. Shrimp boat captains are *Usually* pretty upstanding guys, keep their equipment in good shape, and you'd loan your truck to one without worry. Crab boat guys work their tails off, and again are good people to be around. Then there's the oyster guys. Rules? We don't need no stinking rules. Shrimp boats in the marina: Oyster boats If you were to use groups of people within America to further illustrate these gaps in commercial fishing operations…what group of people would you say the oyster boats are like?

There’s no correlation between commercial fishing and any social description. Seadrift is about 1/3 Hispanic 1/3 Caucasian 1/3 Vietnamese. The shrimpers and oyster guys are about the same percentage. Crabbers are mostly Vietnamese.

Seadrift isn't big, less than a thousand people. Since there's no beach or direct gulf access, it's far from what most consider a tourist mecca. Which is exactly why we live here. There's some nice places and some not so nice places, they very well could be next door to each other. The real dumps were pretty much douched out by Harvey, so there is that. But, when you drive around, you'll see a particular kind of house, red brick with immaculate landscaping, everything in beyond perfect order. Those are all owned by crabbers. Every single one.
