I guess it will be good, but would much rather see a U.S. company building it vs. South Korean.

There is one going on in Arizona, one in Ohio, This one in Austin and One in Sherman. With all the other chip mfgrs here, once these are complete the US won't be needing to outsource anymore chips overseas.

The one in Taylor (not Austin) is absolutely massive and well underway. It is amazing the infrastructure they are putting in to support this campus. It is claimed it will the largest structure (square footage under roof) on the entire planet.

In general, the US needs to invest in semiconductor manufacturing in the US. There is one company in Taiwan right now that makes virtually all the ultra-high-end chips in the world. That alone basically draws us into a war if Taiwan is attacked. If we didn't and production was shut down all our technology goes down the toilet in a hurry. This is strategically just as important as oil, we should not be dependent on a foreign country.

It seems like a lifetime ago when I worked at Hewlett-Packard. At the time they had a couple of chip fabs. It was during my tenure there that the whole shipping chip production overseas started. It was of course to "save money" and increase profits. At the time I said this was a bad idea as our designs ,etc. could be copied and we would be dependent on the overseas manufactures. I was accused of being xenophobic and that HP had "contracts" that insured chips wouldn't be copied, and so on. Well we see now how that's worked out.

It takes years to build a chip facility. Clean rooms, the actual equipment to produce the chips take time to build, and so on. It also takes time to train a workforce to produce chips despite many of the production process's being automated. Yes it is a good thing we are building chip facilities here but it will take time for them to come on line. The disruption to this country, to say nothing of the rest of the world, would be catastrophic if our overseas suppliers of chips wee to be destroyed such as could happen if Taiwan was attacked.

The plant in Taylor is massive, and the surrounding area has exploded with new growth, preparing for the upcoming population boom. They have new housing developments already going on in Rockdale, Thorndale, etc. Good for Texas.. and the US.

I still haven't figured out where they will get the water for that plant. Semiconductor plants require massive amounts of water and that area doesn't have any large lakes. I assume they have the logistics worked out, but I wouldn't be surprised if we hit a multi-year drought and find out that some local water district oversold and under delivered.

They are already in a massive drought down there... The only nearby lake that is full is Granger, all others are crazy low amd pretty much unfishable.

We have done quite a bit of work at that plant and the surrounding area.
