Thanks for the all the replies guys! I guess the old dog will learn a few new tricks and dust off some old ones. West Texas can be a lot of fun when it rains and when it doesn’t you change a little and still have fun. Unfortunately our lakes just can’t handle the pressure some of our smaller ones are getting at the moment. And even Ivie is getting smaller every day. Man if you guys move who am I going to donate my entry fees to I'll make sure you have my Venmo! That would save me money. Wouldn’t have to haul the green weenie to the lake to get disappointed

The Mexican food sucks out east though. You’re like the 5th person to tell us that. That’s okay though, the Cajun food out this way sucks so hopefully it’s a trade off. When we moved to Arkansas the first Mexican place we tried I asked for some Queso and they looked at me like I was nuts. I said “ You know, the melted cheese with the peppers and onion and stuff you dip chips in?” And the response was “OHHHHH you mean cheese dip! Will that be white or yellow?”. I knew I was in trouble. Terrible. The enchiladas were even worse. You will have to hunt for a place you like out that way.

The Mexicans in East Texas are stepping their game up. Just go to a taqueria style. No peraltas or jalapeño tree !!

There is that place in Malakoff. I painted their entry with margaritas one night on the way out before a tournament. I dint recall if it was good or not. In fact I don't recall anything.

One thing that is certain about east Tx, most the people who have the money and control most things are very conservative in their way of thinking.

East Texas is a fantastic region for fishing, offering a variety of lakes and waterways. Here are some notable spots and insights:
Pineywoods Region:
B.A. Steinhagen: Catfish are biting in the shallows on cut bait and prepared baits. Largemouth bass can be caught on Texas-rigged worms and crankbaits. Bob Sandlin: Crappie are good in 15-20 feet of water on brush piles using minnows or jigs. Catfish are active in shallow areas with cut bait or worms. Sand bass are biting at Blow Hole using chrome rattle traps. Lake O the Pines: Bass are transitioning to the first breakline in 6-8 feet of water, hitting Texas rig worms, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits. Caddo Lake: Expect improving conditions after recent flooding. Watch for bream moving shallow in the coming weeks.
Lake Conroe:
Catfish have been excellent! Reports from the early bulkhead bite to deep water baited holes show great numbers and decent size. Try catfish bubblegum, liver, worms, shad, or punch bait. Largemouth bass are good on soft plastics. Hybrids are active in the morning, pushing deeper as the day warms. Crappie can be found in 12-30 feet of water using plastics, hair, or minnows.
Lake Fork:
Fish are in various stages of the spawn. Many are shallow (1-4 feet) with Texas rigs, yum dingers, chatterbaits, flukes, and swim jigs. Offshore bass are good on humps and points (5-7 feet) using Carolina rigs, crankbaits, and shaky heads. Crappies are shallow, and small fish patterns like wooly buggers work well.
Other Places to Fish in East Texas:
Robertson Park: Offers bank fishing access and boat ramps. Lakeside Marina: Features an enclosed fishing barge. Harbor Bay Marina: Another great spot for fishing. Whether you’re after bass, trout, or other freshwater fish, East Texas has plenty of options for anglers. Tight lines!

The Mexican food sucks out east though. You’re like the 5th person to tell us that. That’s okay though, the Cajun food out this way sucks so hopefully it’s a trade off. Just got to know where to look. Villa Montez and Javi's in Tyler are great. Big Sandy has a little place that is really good.

The more research I have done the more little hidden places I have found that are supposed to be good. I figure between finding some good Mexican food, upgrading our cajun cuisine, and having a ton of lakes close by we should be okay.
