I don't disagree with that. But you asked for ideas other than liver and hotdogs.

Limburger cheese , hamburger meat and oat meal as the binder . Used to be cheap but now will cost you a fortune to make this bait .

Bologna will work as well , go to the deli section in the grocery store and get it . Have them slice it 3/4" - 1" thick and then cut it into cubes , use a treble hook on a swivel where you can take the hook off the swivel and slide the bologna over the eye of the hook onto the points . You can also use chunks of cheese the same way .

Big fan of chicken hearts, stay on the hook well, cheap, and flat out work!

Cut fish or live fish is all I use. Seems to work well. Have great luck with luck minnows during the channel cat spawn.

Fishing for big blues has been great the last couple of weeks up shallow using fresh cut carp. I think itโ€™s because the carp are up shallow everywhere. Fish up to 40lbs have been eating it well, lots of big fish shallow right now.

In my experience all bait needs to be fresh, frozen or packaged bait never works as good as fresh.

I use the chicken seasoned with kool-aid and garlic salt. Really popular bait, but it works. Other than that, I use shad. I sometimes use live bluegill under a bobber which seems to work well for channel cats in a creek.
