I have been white bass fishing all over the state of Texas the last couple of weeks. The one thing that has been consistent is that as soon as the sun gets up in the sky over the trees the fishing almost completely shuts down. Same thing has been happening in the evening. I fished Newman Bottom this evening. I got there around 3:30. For the first hour I only caught 1 white bass. But then I started to see a lot of movement of white bass and some clear spawning activity. I made a dozen casts or so with a chartreuse/white clouser but couldn't get a bite. I switched over to the magical clouser and immediately started catching fish. The first 6 or 7 were small males but the fish got bigger as the sun crept toward the horizon. I ended up catching 24 more between 4:30 and 6 PM and left them biting. I did catch some females but they looked to be at least partially depleted of eggs. J-Moe, is this you? My friend took the picture at Wilderness park yesterday. He was so amazed by your (if its you) flying fishing skills...

How’s creeks like nails and cedar doing recently? I’ve had a good trip early Feb but haven’t got time to come back. Is the run over or is there still fish? Thanks! These creeks are very low with little flow, not like they were in February. They only produce after a significant rise in height and flow. Once the water level declines the fish move downstream or back into the lake.

J-Moe - Thank you as usual for the information. Curious if you ever bank fly fish out of any state parks. Trying to plan some camping and wondering if one state park or the other has any good fly fishing areas..

Trying to plan some camping and wondering if one state park or the other has any good fly fishing areas.. Howdy Shanetx, Yes, I have a state parks pass and I fish several of them. But usually fish the lakes from the kayak. Some of the state parks rent kayaks. There is some bank fishing areas that you can fly fish at Buescher State Park, Fort Boggy State Park, Mckinney Falls State Park, Blanco State Park and Garner State Park to name few. Your best bet would be to fish one of the parks on a river where you can wade fish a larger area. Mckinney falls on Onion Creek, Blanco State Park on the Blanco river and Garner state park on the Frio River. I catch sunfish, rios and bass in these rivers. I here a lot of good things about Garner state park. I have never stayed at any of them but love to fish them.

fished Somerville Friday 8am-2pm. "Graphed" "fish" 12-15 FOW on Lowrance Elite 9" but caught 10+" & 8". Did not see many "bent poles" from waders (Welch Park) and other few boats moving a lot. No signs of WB chasing shad on Somerville banks.

KJ Fishing, Very nice catch! Thanks for sharing the picture. There is a damaged pier in Birch Creek State Park, and it is a good crappie fishing honey hole.

Still some stragglers left in the Yegua at Irwin bridge. 6 of 7 white bass today were solid keepers. I ditched the fly gear and was using mepps spinners and rooster tails.
It was a different world when we were boys and girls....
