ive had good luck with the hustler raptor as well. 3k 12 years ago. has a 22 or 23 hp kawi on it and i mow an acre lot, half is prolly house, shop and concrete though. its so much quicker than a tractor style but as mentioned, it dosent do good on wet slopes or mud, and its not recommended to use it for towing loads.

It’s from a Robert Earl Keene song. Give it a listen, it’s at the 2:39 minute mark.

We have a couple of hilly areas as well as some bumpy spots. It does just fine on them. I'm not brand loyal and the previous owners were moving to a retirement community so I got this mower at less than half of retail. I think it had 16hrs on it abd looked brand new. Glad I bought it.

Thanks, they say that the Deere's hold up well.

One thing I've learned and that is to take a lot of Z turn opinions with a grain of salt. Yiu will hear the mowers at a dealer are different than the what a big box store sells regarding same model. Our mower came from JD dealership. The same model at Lowe's is identical. Same parts list and such.

There are a lot of choices out there and I bet most brands are pretty decent. Especially for homeowner use. I would focus on getting what is right for the amount of property yiu will mow, storage availability and ease of use.

If you have less than an acre or so I can't see the need for a mower over $5000-6000

This 100%. The way some guys recommend mowers for a 1 acre lot would be the equivalent of using a 40’ center console with twin 400s for fishing at your local lake. Sure it’s bigger and beefier, but it won’t necessarily last any longer than a properly maintained unit used correctly. I’ve had two “box store” cub cadets - the same one you get at the dealer, both have been bulletproof. One is now 20 years old and it gets lake duty, other than a few belts it’s just needed oil changes and a starter.

Yea, grandbassslayer. Well I’d argue that guys don’t need $80,000 bass boats to catch fish……
Or $90,000 pickups w 4x4 to drive to the office and Starbucks either, but here we all are.

I have a Kubota (for the last 5 years). It has been a really good mower. Just regular maintenance. My yard is a little over an acre.

I just bought a John Deere (model 350) riding mower for my lake house. I got that as my wife usually cuts the lawn and she does not like the Zero Turn. Have about an acre out there.

Another Kubota owner here (for the last 3 years). I have 5 acres and hundreds of trees. I had a 52" Gravely before that which lasted for 13 years, really liked the Gravely as it was a beast, just a little too expensive. Went with a Kubota this time because it was 0 down and 0 percent interest, paid it off the first year with annual bonus. After 12 years the Gravely just kept giving me a fit running. It was a 27 HP Kawasaki and would run 13 miles an hour. I could mow the place in 3.5 hours. When I'm home and need to mow I don't want issues, gave my Gravely to one of my neighbors who is a mechanic. He's still using it. My 60" Kubota also has a 27 HP Kawasaki, but it will only go 10 miles per hour, however with the 60" width It' cut my mowing down to just 3 hours.

Kubota Z series owner here. Bought it from Zimmer in Denton. This thing is a beast. Cuts fast, cuts clean, and has power to get through the wet grass / mud areas if needed.

Besides the quality of the Kubota, the dealer network throughout Texas will convince you. Our local dealer looks like a Chevrolet lot used to look like. Great selection of equipment and parts. The local dealer also employs people that know the product. Plus, you don’t know it yet, but you will want a small tractor with attachments as you get settled into the rural life and they got you covered.
