I receive pushback every time I say this, but I’ve had it happen many times and corroborated by others, thick fog affects GPS signal. Adverse weather, such as heavy rain, fog, or snow, can scatter or absorb GPS signals, reducing accuracy as water droplets in the atmosphere bend the signals. DO NOT TRUST YOUR POSITiONING OR HEADING IN THICK FOG.
Please slow down! Blaming electronics is always the scape goat. The human factor is usually the real issue 99% of the time. Mechanical failures do happen. But, most, IF NOT ALL, accidents are the result of a bad decision by the driver. Period. Electronics should be a guide, guidelanes should be a guide, your eyes should be a guide and if any of these are compromised by anything you get your foot out of the throttle. I'm gonna say something controversial and let me start by saying I certainly hope that the anglers are OK. We treat these situations way to softly. I think tourney directors should take a hard look at putting a driver if a boat in time out for a year that is involved in a iffy accident. We ban a cheater for life. Maybe a year off to consider one's actions would get guys to slow down in rain, fog, dark etc. . Way too much of this stuff lately. My 2 cents

This was on squaw in December. My kid took pick as I idled up to see what was going on. Daylight hours, very light fog.

For y’all who don’t do Facebook Do they ran up on that island in broad daylight? ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2024/03/full-54570-216918-img_8462.png) Do they ran up there in broad daylight? Looks like she is doing some cover for bad decision. It's terrible, but (12 News Story): Thick fog and low lighting contributed to the accident in which the boat struck Rattlesnake Island at about 5:40 a.m. Friday morning, according to Lindon Wood, Lead Ranger for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the lake. This was my thought as well - maybe a predule to some upcoming insurance questions, etc. Of course, I have no idea, so probably shouldn't speculate. But did seem like an odd response.

“It wasn't foggy when this happened. The fog didn't roll in until later. They were not going too fast, or any faster than they've gone in similar conditions. Both anglers have been fishing this lake for decades and are very experienced. My advice here is, don't trust your graphs.“
So are we to assume the graphs are to blame? Or the topography of the lake suddenly changed?
People always look to place blame on anyone/anything else. The graph doesn’t control the boat.

I fished a lot of dead people that the real tragedy was them making a decision that lead to their demise.
As a society we like to sugar coat anything traumatic with the word "tragedy". Instead of saying a choice or decision is what triggered this chain of events that lead to the victim's demise.

We all make decisions that affect our lives both good and bad, obviously to have run that boat that far up on those rocks, there was a bad decision made. It’s time for grownups to act the part especially if we want the kids coming into the sport not to be that way also. You don’t have to drive it like you stole it all the time!

Must have been a pretty good spot to fish, had 10 to 15 lbs. waiting on the lure to bite to be in that much a hurry. My experience tells me that they had to be running with just the prop in the water to climb that far up those boulder rocks......
As in everything these days, you got three sides to every story. I just do not believe the first one that was given......
