JKB…

Went today, the river is wide, moving slow and stained. Up several feet from ‘23. A few fish are starting to move up. Not high numbers yet. The run is just barely starting. Light and slow rolling bites. Will get better after rain and a little more time (even though is 90°, it’s still February).

Water is severe clear and dropping. Not many fish up and not biting. Hoping it will pick up after rain.

Fished the Nolan yesterday (3/5), sampled 4 spots: the 933 bridge, the half-dam below that, Rock Creek and the big rocks above that. The dam was the only productive spot, and only one keeper male there, caught several undersized, all males. Moss was TERRIBLE there, a constant annoyance. Drove to Rock Creek, water was VERY high there from Whitney levels; estimate 4' higher than normal, impossible to cross at the riffle / shoals, can just BARELY walk along south rocky edge. Water level highest I've ever seen there. Water a bit turbid, but flows OK, MUCH less moss there. No one catching that I could see, probably just too early.

Fished the Nolan @ Blum Wednesday afternoon.. found a good number of fish just above the half-dam.. mostly males but two bigger spent females in the bunch.. and yes the floating algae is a pain and it reduces the catch rate significantly. Small gray/white clouser w/ heavy gold barbel eyes did the best but also caught on bigger and smaller clousers in gray/white/yellow/chartruse color combinations size 10 and 8 / bead chain eyes
