Fishing the draw above rapids is certainly a pattern to look for in the future.. of the five I caught four were holding just above moving water.

About 2 weeks ago, I tried to crappie fishing with my father at Somerville in the brushy piles in the main lake, but they weren't there for sure. That might have been pre-spawn for them. I realize this is the bank fishing forum, but do you guys know where we might find them in the lake? What depth would you recommend trying to find brush in? We don't have any fancy equipment like live scope, just your normal fish finder with down & side imaging. Unfortunately, we can't take our boat into the creek/shallow water, so trying to figure out the next best place. Preferably near Rocky Creek/Yegua state parks.

There are some brush piles just to the southwest of the boat ramp along the shore there at Rocky Creek. They get fished pretty hard, but still worth a try. Otherwise, maybe hire guide Kevin Kubiak to show you around the lake a little. He fishes brush piles for crappie.

Also, take me out sometime. I love crappie fishing brush piles, but I don't have a boat. roflmao

They are just starting to get on brush. I’ve been member here forever. Lost my acct and after a few years decided to come back after spending last few years in 2cool.

Lake temps are still lower than we’d all like. Everyone gets fidgety this time of year. 68° water temp and extended daylight hours our crappie will hit the spawn and show out. I haven’t seen it above 62°…

Stay on them, it’s coming…

If anyone is on FB, we have a ‘’lake Somerville fishing”
Page. All the guides are on there except 1 that I know..we regularly post reliable reports when we have great trips. It’s been slow as of recent.

Thanks for the report. It can get tough when it hasn't rained in awhile and the creek clears up. Those fish get leery.

Rain in the the forecast this week, Thursday and Friday! Next weekend may be good!

I caught a female and just took a look at the egg sac. Looks like it was almost fully developed and might be spawning soon. Of course I'm no expert!

Started at Irwin @ 0900 this morning only had one swipe on a rooster tail. No hit on the Clouser, moved to Newman’s @11 just left 20 minutes ago. I fished up stream from the old trail way bridge no luck. Most I saw was 3 on a stringer. Fish were visible and actively chasing each other and rubbing up on each other. I could cast right in front of them and they would dart off. Heard reports of crappie being caught down stream from the old bridge but never went down stream to verify. Lots of cars in the parking lot. Game warden was around in the morning but has since moved on.

Hope this helps.

Also I heard reports of 100 plus cars at the steps today can anyone verify this

Thanks for the report, B-Sal. I can believe there were lots of folks at the steps today. With it being a Saturday and the weather so nice.

Went to my cousin Troy and mine favorite fishing hole from Irwin Bridge and caught 8 fish, 6 keeper whites, 1 throw back, and highlight of the day one 17 7/8" hybrid. That was really fun on ultra light. This will be my last 3 hr round trip excursion to the Yegua this year. Was really glad to have the opportunity to catch some whites this year. Really didn't think it was going to happen. Hopefully will see everyone next December when hopefully the lake stays above pool and we get alot more whites up into the creeks. [Linked Image]

I know the hybrid was fun Cuz. I’ve saw reports that the fishing is really good down at the Neuces River. Wish I could go but too many things going on right now.
