I'm going to avoid the crowds on Somerville creeks, and beat the guys to the spots out here in north Houston at Spring Creek/Cypress creek where I've had some luck the last couple of months

What a difference a week makes! I caught 22 on 2/15/24 and none yesterday 2/22/24 at Irwin's. The water was high and muddy on 2/15/24 and about 2 ft. lower on 2/22/24 but still slightly muddy. Lots of activity in the water on 2/15/24 and hardly any on 2/22/24. I'm going to blame getting skunked on the full moon. BTW, about half the fish on 2/15 were females. Interestingly, some of those had fully developed eggs and were ready to spawn and the others had underdeveloped eggs and were no where near spawning.

We saw some signs of spawning Friday just before sunset.. I'm betting the fish got real busy spawning under the big moon and will continue doing so for the next several days.. Daytime spawning activity might decrease unless it gets cloudy and rains..

Spent most of the day at Newmans. Slow day of fishing. Ended up with 4 for the day. Two crappie and two white bass. The white bass were large at least.
They were mainly feeding towards the bottom and striking as you reeled closer to the bank.

The steps yesterday was horrible. I might try out the yegua today or tomorrow. I have to fish at Irwin because the walks to good places to fish are much shorter walking distance. At Newman's I have to walk a long ways just to fish the first good productive hole. But it's a good one. Who am I trying to fool, the better holes at both places require a good long walk.

This morning spent about at an hour at Nails fishing for crappie. Not a bite. Spent another hour at Irwin Bridge fishing for white bass. Fished multiple spots around the horseshoe. Not a bite. Biggest stringer I saw was two fish. Going to drown my sorrows in some BBQ. 😂

Went to the main lake for 8 hours, fished multiple brush piles, jumps and banks. Managed one large white bass and 3 throwback crappies.
Has anyone been to big creek or birch creek? I have never been and want to try. Any tip on which side of the bank is easier to walk and on public land?

Fished Irwin bridge for about 30 minutes, caught 2. Not enough action, I'm out of here. Not enough water. It really is running slow. Also had a grandson with me and you all know this is not a place for a kid with a rod and reel. He was broke off in no time at all.

Fished Nails Creek yesterday for 3-4 hours. Only caught 1 crappie, no white bass. Saw a few boats and kayaks, and they said very slow, not much bites. Water is slightly muddy. Maybe the cool front with strong north wind turned the white bass in hideout.

Thanks Jsinn. It was a rough start but a good ending. Finally caught some normal big Yegua whites today.

I lost a 16 in her right at the bank. Don’t know what was up. I lost 8 to 9 whites but still ended up with 14 white and one good catfish.
