I use to love fishing the west side of Irwin bridge. That's the first place I fished the Yegua. For several years I never knew about Newman's bottom. One time at Irwin I walked downstream and I ran into some angers and saw parked vehicles. I asked that guy how did they get there. He wasn't to helpful, so I had to drive around till I found it myself.

I've hiked from Irwin to Newman's Bottom many a time. The cool thing is the creek fishes differently depending on what side you're on. There are holes and banks you can get to from one side and not the other. And there are pretty good trails on both sides of the creek as well.

My forecast for this years spawn. This upcoming warm weather next week will trigger these fish and they are going to be super active. This year spawn is going g to occur a week earlier than normal and end sooner as a result. Next seven days is going to be crazy good.

I think you are correct Fishytx. J-Moe has started catching some big females.

You think they are still in the creeks? Isn’t water too low for them to get in from the lake? I was out yesterday and caught only 4 at Irwin. [Linked Image]

Yes, they are still in the creeks. The run is just getting going. I fished the Middle Yegua just upstream of Irwin bridge yesterday evening and caught 17 in a short period of time.

I did notice that the fish were showing a bit of spawning activity. Also I was able to pick up 7 fish out of fast moving water below a partial log jam. They are starting to move into position and should be thick above and below the riffles going forward.

The creeks are going to start clearing now. It's important to size down to smaller baits and line size. I love fluorocarbon leader on my fly rod. Max of 6 lb.

Fishytx uses 4 lb. mono and a single 1/32 ounce white marabou jig. At that point its just about presentation. Soft drifts, soft twitches will become critical as the water clears.

I am still learning the creeks. I tried walking upstream from Irwin for close to a mile and can’t seem to find any fish. I also did about a mile upstream of cedar creek, and caught only 2. Should I bring going more upstream or downstream?

I was going to try and take the boat out the main lake and look for bass and crappie this coming Saturday. Figure the creeks would be really full of people.

Lake is still currently over pool, I can run a boat all the way to Newman's bottom from the lake. There is more than enough water in the creek.

If I fished for money.........I'd be broke.

In a world of compromise.....Some don't.

Will try nails creek next week! I am still learning to bobber fishing for crappie with a jig. I use 6 lb fluorocarbon for that. Been using 16 lb JDM braid to 12 lb mono leader for whites.
