Probably the Yegua in the WMA.. wear your orange vest.. Newman Bottom will be overrun and no place to park..

We don’t have our orange with us this morning, will be trying nails in hopes of some good fishing!

I was looking at a map of the yegua creek and noticed just how far these fish travel up the creek to reach Newman's bottom. It's at least a mile and half. Then another mile to reach Irwin bridge. Once you find a good hole, you can catch bunch out of it. I'm not able to do long walks anymore, so I'll probably try Irwin bridge soon. There are a few good close holes to try out.

If one wants they can walk for miles along Yegua creek. And almost all of it is public land. That is the beauty of Lake Somerville State Park. Hands down the best park for us bank anglers.

It is nice. I know I use to take my entire family out there and we went on many nature walks. Awesome place.

Braved the cold this morning. Went to Newman's Bottom. Caught 4 real early which was a surprise. Didn't catch another fish till about 10 o'clock when I walked and fished along way upstream. Got to one of my cousins Eller Troy and my favorite fishing holes and caught 10 more.Fished my way back keying on shadowed parts of the creek and ended up catching 4 more. Finished with 18. Had 3 throwbacks which is unusual. All males except 1. Caught on white roostertails. Did lose about 10 of those roostertails today. That hurts the pocketbook [Linked Image]

That's nearly $30 worth of roosters.. but the Yegua is the only creek at Lake Somerville that has flow at the moment.. I fished Jerdelle, Cedar and the Yegua @ Newman Bottom.. I should have known the fly wasn't gonna work very well in that stained water.. Managed 2 way up in Jerdelle and one at Newman, Ray and I zeroed @ Cedar walking up from the park.

Started my morning in Nails, picked up one fat flab crappie. No other bites, ran over to yegua. Ran up to NB, water was still off color with a slight flow, water temp was 53-54 in most places. Worked my way down stream, picked up 16 whites and 2 crappie before calling it a day

If I fished for money.........I'd be broke.

In a world of compromise.....Some don't.

I drove over the creeks yesterday evening. Cedar and Nails were so low I didn't even try. Sounds like I was right not to try.

I went up into the Middle Yegua and fished. It took about 20 minutes, and 3 different flies and setups before I found the right combination. I ended up catching 10 in about an hour and fifteen minutes on a unique clouser pattern I seldom use.

My dad and I fished nails for about an hour and a half yesterday with no luck. Guys around us hadnt caught anything either so we decided to head over to cedar creek. We ended up with 9 keepers. Just slowly fishing the deep holes and turns in the creek. Some other people had a stringer going as well.

Thanks for all that information guys. Wow, I thought the water would look better than what it does right now. Sure is muddy looking.

Went to Irwin today and it was tough fishing. Only managed 3 white bass walking way downstream. Most I spoke with said they hadn't caught anything. Saw one other person catch a fish.
