I fished the Middle Yegua again this evening. I ended up catching 17, including a couple 15 inch plus females. The fish were extremely tight to the bank. I had to fish parallel to the bank to catch them.

I drove over the creeks yesterday evening. Cedar and Nails were so low I didn't even try. Sounds like I was right not to try.

I went up into the Middle Yegua and fished. It took about 20 minutes, and 3 different flies and setups before I found the right combination. I ended up catching 10 in about an hour and fifteen minutes on a unique clouser pattern I seldom use.

The creeks that have gone still have nothing to hold the whitebass in any predictable places.
Requires lots of shotgunning dead water in the deeper pools.
Not something the "fly" is best suited for..

Curly tail jigs and inline spinners rule the open water..

The fish I caught today were right up against the bank. Had to put the jig almost on land to get bit. So J-Moe's report rings true.

Caught 11 whites, 2 from Cedar, and 9 from Irving’s bridge. Was really tough in cedar, walked upstream for close a mile. Also couldn’t get a bite going upstream from Irving.

Thanks for the report. The water level in Cedar is very low. Same with Nails. When the water level goes up the fish will rush upstream in these smaller creeks. But as soon as the water level starts declining the fish will start moving back downstream. So the number of fish upstream in Cedar was only 10% of what it was 10 days ago.

The same trend can be seen in the Yegua but at a much slower pace. I've seen it where I started catching them at Irwin bridge, then within 10 days I was having to walk almost 2 miles downstream before I found them in any numbers.

So I would say that catching 11 was an excellent trip and you got plenty of exercise grin

welcome

I went to the Middle Yegua again this evening. I fished until I caught 20. It took about 2 hours. Lots of 14.5 inch plus fish tonight. One football that was 15 inches and weighed 1.69 lbs. And a mega white bass that was 16.2 inches and weighed 1.93 lbs. The big ladies are showing up as normal toward the end of February.

I felt like I was stealing fish off JonL and Troy's stringer tonight roflmao

Thank you for the welcome.

It was not an easy walk, first time walking there and I guess I should have gone upstream on the north side of the creek. South side was rough and a few spots, the fence would push you into the creek.

I also caught this the week before in Nails creek. 1.82 lb crappie. [Linked Image]

Jmoe I know you throw your fish back so they will be there when Troy and I are there.

Those crappie should begin moving up real shallow here in the next few weeks. Nails Creek is a good place to catch them.

And they are well trained (special incantation) before I release them.
