Not a cure, but my paternal grandfather was a heavy smoker. All his cigarette butts went into a pail of water. When the bucket was full, Grandma would take that black water put it in a spray bottle and use it as an insecticide in her garden.

The cure was worse than the scratch.

Sprite or 7up. If you had just about anything. I also remember that when I got bad hurt they would run me over to my grandmas for her to make the determination of if I needed to go to the ER. The only medical experience she had was sewing her mom up when she was young due to her getting hooked in the stomach by a cow.

My mom was born and raised in Oklahoma. Her father was married to an Indian woman and she had a half brother who was half Indian. When he was young, he got very (near death) sick she said and that Indian woman (as she called her) made a soup concoction using the white part of chicken sh*t. She said it cured him of whatever ailed him. This would have been in the 1930’s. Anyone else ever heard of such a thing?

Hot totties for fever . We had them as kids even.

Same at our house. While traveling, if I had a bad cough Dad would stop and get a bottle of peppermint schnapps and have me take a swallow. A couple of those and the trip went by very quickly as well as got rid of the cough.
For a sick stomach, Mom kept a bottle of "Coke Syrup" that she got from the pharmacy, don't know what else was in it but it worked.

Caster Oil for the win.
Good grief that stuff was horrible.
Few times I was sick, pretend I wasn’t.

I had 5 Grandmothers alive at one time. (2 Grandmothers - 2 Greats - and 1 Great/Great Grandma. It was great, because they could fix anything that ailed you. Too much to list; but here are a couple for flue.
- Research Asafetida Bag; They could be bought at the general stores in late 1800 and early 1900. You guessed it; Grandma's made their owm. It was worn around the neck. close to the throat.

- Recipe for the drink. It was excellent for COVID; because it is a light Quinine.
* 1.5 Gallons of distilled water. Bring to a boil in a stainless steel pan with cover.
* Peel 2 large Grapefruits and cut peelings into small pieces. Place in boiling water. Use peelings only. Eat the grapefruits if you like.
* Peel one large Lemon and cut up the peelings. Place in boiling pot.
* Sweeten with Honey from your area; 1/2 cup. Place in boiling pot.
* Turn heat down and simmer for 45 minutes.
* Scoop out the peelings after the pot has cooled down and discard in trash.
* Pour up the cooled down liquid in a glass picture with lid and refrigerate.
* Sip on the drink all day everyday until it is gone. Heat it up in a small stainless pan on the stove and drink like coffee. NO microwave.

Vick's vapor rub as stated
Niacin / Vitamin C tablets for colds / flu
Tea tree oil dropped into a steaming pot of water for congestion (place head, covered by towel over steam, breathe until you felt like a prisoner getting water tortured)
Tea tree oil dropped into a cup for gargling, cure for colds and sore throats

Believe it or not, these worked quite effectively. If doing this for 3 days didn't cure it, or we worsened past a point, then we would go see a doctor.

Yep. The VapoRub on the feet is something our now 92 year old family friend told us over 20 years ago. Craziest thing I'd ever heard, but it works. If I feel any congestion whatsoever, I put it on and put on the socks and by morning it's gone.
