I've run all kinds in 45 years of serious fishing.

Currently, it's an aluminum, raised decks, tiller steer four stroke with tilt, motorguide, couple depth finders, power pole and anchor reel.
Launches super easy, loads the same.
Uses almost no gas, runs smooth.

I fish small, uncrowded lakes.

"..The pleasantist angling is to see the fish
Cut with her golden oars the silver stream,
And greedily devour the treacherous bait.
Bill Shakespeare

We have caught everything from bluegill to king mackerel to bass to bull reds out of this boat. Very, very versatile. Easy to tow. Easy to launch and retrieve by myself when I need to. Been in the family for 21 years. Highly recommended.

First. . . I will not be in the market for a boat for about two years, after we pay off the tractor and zero-turn. And more importantly, if the money-man approves the purchase. 4 years ago I had a 15' Jon Boat with 20hp motor that i decked with pedistal seats and TM for crappie fishing. Sold that before we closed on our farm and new house. Now I am in a Hobie PA14 Kayak, equipped with TM and spot-lock. It gets me around. I'd love to get a real boat to get to the crappie.

Second. . . I know NOTHING about boats (other than the Jon with 20hp). Here are my thoughts. I'd love a center console, but that is not very "wife friendly" comfort wise. Next, I Really Really like the Deep V style boats, like the Lund Adventure Series, Crestliner Hawk, or others like that. I've seen lots of youtube videos of guys using them well for catching crappie. I think the Deep Vs look like a very "wife freindly" boat, with lots of area to move around. My last choice is the Bass Boat style. I have nothing against them, at all, and they seem "wife friendly." But not much rooom to move around, except on the decks.

Question. . . Between the Deep V and the Bass Boat styles, what do I need to know to make a decision? Remember, I know NOTHING about boats. I have Never had any friends with a boat, so i have maybe been out on a real boat 5 times in my 61 years of life. Another tidbit is, I will be crappie fishing 99% of the time. As exciting as bass fishing looks, it will be too big of a learning curve. . . and I'm still on the low end of the crappie learning curve. I've fished for bass all my life, but in stock tanks.

So. . . Give me some education why I might pick a Deep V or a Bass Boat. It's gonna be two years, but no time like the present to start learning.

Thanks Folks. . .

Check out Avid CC boats. Place to lounge upfront. Has a place for a table for a shore lunch. Only boat on the market (that I know) that has a ice chest on the front deck to ice fish down ( best way to go for crappie and catfish)
Tackle storage at front on console.

I do like the Avid, but. . . That certainly ain’t no “Low Budget Fishin’”😬😬😬. I guess I should have stated that I will be buying used at a price point under $30k.

I have a suggestion, having owned everthing discussed so far except center consoles and pontoons. I have fished out of all of them. I don’t currently own a boat and not in the market, I don’t fish that much. When I want to scratch my crappie itch, a buddy and I go with Todd, AKA Slewfoot.

Go with several guides on half day trips in the next couple years and get some real feel for different types of boats. That will take the imagination out of the equation. If you can’t find enough variety doing that, I’m sure some of these guys would take you out.

If I were going to buy a boat at my age (first I’d have to fall on my head grin), I would buy a pontoon boat and rig it for crappie and catfish. I’ve caught so many bass in my lifetime of fishing that I have no desire to catch any more. I’m 77 in a few more days and the pontoon just suits my style. No up, no down, just level walking, seats tall enough that an old fat guy can get up and down. Put a big enough engine on it that you can get 35 mph, and that’s fast enough for me. I don’t fish if it’s windy, I avoid bad weather. A nice top is available if it’s hot weather. On Shannon’s pontoon boat, ( littlewheel on here), he even has a popup ladies room ! He runs catfishing trips when he ain’t selling ice cream. Just something to consider. Todd has what I would call a fish&ski, heavy on the fishing, light on the skiing. Nice seating for old farts and a windshield. Give either one of these guys a holler and try them out, then you can say “Hell yeah” or “No thanks”. Good luck however you go. grin
