It's sucked, my worst one yet and it's not getting any better. My wife and kids seem happy, and I am happy for that. My mom had me when she was 16 so my grandpa stepped in and really helped raise me. We are so close this has been diffucult. At 83 he's loosing his mind at a rapid pace. Sucks. I've had a loss of income also. I've had stomach issues and don't get much relief. Cherry on top I have had a lot of mental issues lately that haunt my thoughts, all of them. Yesterday I took my son to his dr. They directed me to the ER because they thought it was his appendix. Turns out it was a stomach virus. Im cash pay, so Im sure I will be getting another 6-7k bill in the mail pretty soon. I have a spot on my back about 3in around. Been there for 2 years, probably skin cancer, at least that's what it looks like to me. So yeah, 2023 won't be missed.

I don't think it's intentional false advertising. Early on in a new relationship the woman really does have a higher drive. The phenomenon is called limerance. Whether she likes it or not though, internal wiring for women tappers libido down over time. As I mentioned after 24 months, they may have no spontaneous desire at all. This is particularly true after kids. The really strange thing is that the same woman with zero spontaneous desire for her husband could have enormous desire for another man. Limerance restarts her drive. How many times have you seen this with recently divorced women who wouldn't touch their husbands but after the divorce wind up jumping on every cowboy they can find. Once she starts another long-term relationship again though the clock starts and she's got 24 months before shes back in the low drive state again.

So if you are a man who wants a woman with as high a desire as you have, you either have to find a unicorn or switch women every 24 months. You'll live your whole life in limerance, but you'll also miss out on getting to know someone at a really deep level and if you have any kids you'll be constantly jerking them around. Plus you'll probably die alone.

Anyway, a better approach in my mind is to be aware the phenomena exists and to put in the work necessary to keep your marriage as healthy as possible. How do you do that?

1. Get your butt to the gym and stay in shape. Keep your hygiene up to.
2. Get out of the house. A little absence makes the heart grow fonder.
3. Set a solid positive tone in your marriage. Be a leader, and don't be a Eyore who says no to everything.
4. Be interesting. Have some fun hobbies. Be the man your wife proudly points out at a party and says that guy, he's my husband. Nobody wants to be married to an uninteresting couch potato.
5. Get your wife away from the dang kids from time to time. Date nights/vacations etc...
6. Don't watch too much porn.
7. Don't let your wife get bored.

If you try and that and your wife still doesn't want to touch you with a ten-foot pole, encourage her to get her hormones checked by an actual hormone specialist. Your regular doctor is going to say she's fine because her numbers will be in the "normal" range for our overweight wildly unhealthy population here in the US.

That's all the unsolicited marriage advice I've got for today.

Have you tried rereading and applying this?

I believe as you get older you tend to be thankful each day you wake up.

Things quit working and you know its not going to get better.
This year has been good and I'm looking for next year to be good too.

I will rate things as I usually do with a 1 to 10 scale, 10 being great!
1- My hero, my dad passed away this past July rating 4, 4 being I know he is in Heaven, 0 for just me.
2- My best friend, my fishing buddy, my unconditional love, Gracie Belle, my Chiwennie passed away in June. Flat out 0. I miss her everyday, and hope and prays dogs are in Heaven. Please let it be true, I and her were best of everything in life.
3- I am cancer free from prostate surgery from this past January, rating 10
4- My kids, grandkids and wife are healthy, ratings 10
5- I’m still her rating 10
6- My fishing success this year, rating 3. I could never get my mojo going. Maybe Gracie not being there?
7- Work, I love my 40 hour job, rating 9
8- Pastoring, rating 5. I feel I could have done better, maybe 2024 is the year our church grows in numbers and in faith.
9- My diet, rating 2 I’m terrible at those kind of things.
10- OVERALL outlook, rating 7. I see more positives than nega.

OVERALL 2023 - 7

Good to Excellent overall for me. I'm an old. Every year now is a blessing as long as me and the wife can walk, talk and eat. Retirement still good. We got out of the metromess. Kids and grandkids are healthy and doing well. The country is in the shixter but our faith is strong.

Life is very good on a personal level- it is very troubling to see the direction of degeneracy our country is head towards at warp speed though.

This is horrible- let’s hope for reconciliation.

Incredible amount of change, lost my Brother on Christmas last year, sad but he got more life out of 60 years than anyone I know . Handling an estate is a mess
Boy got out of high school and is working/ going to school as an emt. So proud of him
Became a cattleman
Felt like the best and worst time of my life, but realized it’s time to enjoy the life I have
Give it a 9.5 and going for 10
