Well this thread has taught me I need a larger reel lol... Have been using a '21 Zillion TW but swapped in a Steez 100H Spool for some more line capacity over the stock Boost spool.. but I think I could use some more line capacity even still... Currently throwing 20lb Sniper...

Any thoughts on Tatula 300 vs Lews SuperDuty 300? I'm a Daiwa guy and leaning towards the Tat...

The new Tatula 300 seems to get the vote by many in the swim bait world. They've updated it for 2023/2024, but the 2022/2021 models are just as good.

If you are not bomb casting you don't always have to use a 300 sized reel. I use some Tatula 200s on most of my swimbaits 3oz or less. They do just fine.

If your a masochist go for it, meanwhile I'll keep throwing a crankbait and shaky head all day.

10XD is in reality a deep diving swimbait. I would also use a 300 size reel for those.

Big swimbaits are great on some lakes, others not so much. Fork and Amistad are big swimbait lakes.

Caught several off Fork on Castaics and will also vouch for Amistad; however, my biggest swim-bait fish actually came from Falcon. I believe water clarity is important for the sight-feeder, but wouldn’t hesitate throwing them in the off-color stuff…

Yeah I think I am going to keep with the 21 Zillion - that 100H spool holds a decent amount of line, it's essentially a 1016 so probably holds 70-80 yards or so of Sniper 20. But will keep an eye out for a good deal on a Tat 300 all the same smile.

I'm also using the 21 Zillion TW G 5.5 for my 10XD rod - but have been trying braid on this setup so the lesser spool capacity has not been an issue...

Revisit this thread with an update after you catch your first quality fish on one. For me, the vicious strikes are unlike any other and can be highly addictive. Good luck…

I have had birds diving down on my Lunker Punker when I was throwing it at Fork several years ago.

Loomis 985C with Calcutta 250 DC w/ 25 Gamma Edge Flo. That rod has a softer tip that helps in casting but a butt section that can move a truck. Keep in mind I don't throw the 8" MD with the treble. I modify it and use a single 10/0 weighted Beast so you have to swat em pretty good when they bite.

I also have a St. Croix that is hard to beat for $150 but the tip section is very stiff. They have all 3 actions of this rod at FnS. Thats where I got mine.
