Cash is King right now. Everything's negotiable. No difference between 50K cash or 50 K loan, its still all cash. You are doing it all wrong. I believe he is talking from a seller's perspective.

It's going to be an interesting future for the bass boat market. Interest rates, extreme over pricing, the market loaded with recently purchased over priced boats that no one can bail out of because they financed it. I've been looking because I am thinking about upgrading and most of the dealer websites look like gridlock on 635 in DFW. I'll wait and see. Figure one bought now; even marked down considerably, will still be overpriced, maybe by a lot. I think it depends on how hard ya shop. As it stands right now if I jumped on something, I'd just buy one of those boat in a box deals; two sonars, ffs, and a TM, and just keep rolling with the one I currently own. I figure there will be some sort of crash if this keeps up and I can go from a 19 footer to a 21 footer and have more room for my high school team to fish together and wind up costing less per month than my ZX200. Interest rates may start creeping down to, if dealers are feeling the pain lending institutions are feeling the pain too. As I said be before I predict there won't be a crash, the whole economy is being held up artificially. It will result in stagation long term unless there is some massive world event, then a crash would be inevitable.

If you take out a $50k loan right now, you better have $60-70k to pay it back. I 100% agree with TBird, cash is king. And with the way this damn economy and Government is going, its made me think real hard about keeping investing money or stuffing it in mattresses! Lol.

Even if the boats are marked down $15,000 they are still about $20,000 over priced. When, not if, the economy eventually goes south I expect a few dealers and maybe even a manufacturer or two to go belly up.

Yes I have a business or two, I was referring to if you were the seller. 50K is 50K, don't matter if it is five hundred 100 dollar bills or 5,000,000 pennies lol, I had to look that up lol.

As I said be before I predict there won't be a crash, the whole economy is being held up artificially. It will result in stagation long term unless there is some massive world event, then a crash would be inevitable. If the boat manufacturers stay like this much longer they will crash, I don't imagine the wealthy will be propping them up. If they do it will effect everything upstream from their manufacturing process. If they keep the economy propped up until we see the results of the next presidential election and we have a regime change, I think things will start going the other way. I just don't think they'll keep everything propped up between now and then, just key elements such as the auto industry and even then if we don't see a pull back in auto pricing at that point eventually someone is going to have to make the decision at some point to let them crash too. My dad was a car dealer and I follow the automotive news both the new and used markets are shut down pretty much. Repo rates are at an all time record. Auction lots are full of repos that the banks keep refusing to sell because they are so upside down in most of them. They have cars that have gone across the bidding floor multiple times and every time they go they have to pay a sale fee and as they hold them; since most of them borrowed money to finance the cars, they are paying interest on all this repo inventory. I saw about 2 months ago where Wells Fargo is in so deep they have started putting loans into deferment for a year. The only way I see this going in a flat direction or improving for and extended period; even with an improved economy, is a government bail out of the entire situation and with the new UAW contract that makes things even more impossible.

My son’s been looking and is biding his time. On BBC there’s 60+ Phoenix and 100+ late model Rangers listed. The inventory is piling up. Was up in Lake of the Ozarks last week and there’s boats for sale everywhere. BoatWx was a large dealer of Caymas and BassCat, among others up there. They closed up shop recently.

Lol yes Happykamper has a business or 3 or 4 or 5..... lol and the seller doesn't care he gets all his money anyway. And if the buyer is smart it really doesn't change much because he can park his cash and make 5 plus percent all day in a CD so paying 9 and making 5 is the same as paying 6 and making 2 more or less.

Yes but older boats end up getting more service so they could see an up tick on that side of the deal. I'm assuming there is a floor plan thing going on and I could see a dealer getting burned on that pretty good.

When interest rates go up, sales go down. Add in that boat and truck MSRP have increased a ridiculous percentage in recent years.

Cash is King right now. Everything's negotiable. It’s more valuable now because interest rate is up. $100,000 in cash would be $122k at 5% for 10 years. At 8% it’s $139k and 10% it’s $152k. 5% $100k is equal to 8% $88k. I will buy a new home in about 4 yrs when I retire. Hopefully the prices are holding or lower. It will be a cash deal so take interest rate out of that equation.

This is why I think Ikon is going to struggle a little as a new company right now. $130k bass boat with a questionable resale being so new. And rates where they are. One of the main reasons I didn’t buy one.
