The Texas Rangers of the American League vs the Arizona Diamondbacks of the National League
Chase Field, Phoenix, AZ
Texas leads The Series 2-1
First Pitch 7:03 p.m.
TV: Fox (Channel 4 in the DFW area)
2023 Masters champ and Arizona State alum Jon Rahm will throw out the ceremonial first pitch tonight before Game 4.
Four-time Grammy nominee Mickey Guyton will perform the National Anthem.
First some takeaways from game 3 and hoping that those takeaways don’t include Mad Max Scherzer and El Bombi, who were both injured in last night’s game.
Scherzer’s back started to tighten up in the 3rd inning. He ducked into the trainer’s room for treatment after the inning, and went out to warm up in the 4th inning. Bad news. His back now was fully locked up. “My back tightened up, and it went into full spasm,’’ Scherzer said. “I was going to hurt it even more, and I wasn’t going to be myself. I was going to do more damage than good.’’ Scherzer says he will know more in the next 48 hours. If his back improves, he’ll be ready to start a potential Game 7. If the pain persists, he could be taken off the World Series roster. Scherzer was in so much back pain that he needed help picking up his shoes.
As Adolis Garcia flew out in his final at bat, it looked like he tweaked something in his back. However, after further examination, he was diagnosed with “left side tightness.” El Bombi is hitting .328 with eight home runs in the postseason. Hopefully his injury wasn't as bad as it looked. He was taken to a local hospital for an MRI to determine the severity of his injury, and whether he can play again in the World Series.
The win last night was the 9th road victory for the Rangers in the postseason, setting a new MLB record for that stat.
Game 4
Game 4 looks like a bullpen game for both teams.
Left-hander Andrew Heaney (0-0) will make his third start and fifth appearance for the Rangers this postseason. He has six innings pitched and four runs allowed on seven hits. Heaney has a 6.00 ERA and opponents are batting .292 against him this postseason. Heaney went 10-6 with a 4.15 ERA in the regular season and made 28 starts, with nine wins as a starter.
The Diamondbacks will send out lefty Joe Mantiply, who made his first career World Series appearance in Game 1. He pitched one scoreless inning. He is 2-0 with a 4.26 ERA over eight career postseason appearances (all this season). He did not allow an earned run over his last six games of the regular season (8 1/3 innings) and had a 1.38 ERA over 10 games in September.
The Rangers could be leaning heavily on Jon Gray again in a few days after his win in game 3. They just may need him to start a potential Game 7 of the World Series. It probably will depend on whether Scherzer will be available or not. He would be able to get in a full 4 days of rest if that need arises.
Let’s Go Rangers! Go and Take It!

Don't think we can hold the D-Backs bats off 2 games in a row. Rangers gotta really swing it tonight to have a shot at the W. Go Rangers!

Ump reports from games 2 and 3.... Just think how much better the games would be if they had them called correctly. They have the ability but have not yet gone to it. Yet.

Hope they do well, but I think we are behind on the pitching matchups and it is going to bite us.

Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

Just announced that Garcia will not be in the lineup tonight. I'll post lineup in a few minutes when I see it.
Bochy has a press conference scheduled for 4:30. Maybe we'll get more details about how long (or short) a time Garcia and Scherzer might be out,
