60 yr old oak in the back yard dropping grape-sized acorns on my metal patio cover sounds a hail storm out there.
WHEN WILL IT STOP?????

My wife wants the tree gone but I canโt bring my self to do it. Itโs the only tree in the back yard and keeps our pool cooler in the summer months. I had it trimmed back from over the pool so at least I am not scooping them every day.

It didn't suffer, it was cut humanely. You do know that there are many folks who make their living growing and harvesting trees for wood and paper right?

I had it trimmed back from over the pool so at least I am not scooping them every day. Yeah, they do make great shade. If there is no grass underneath, it might be easier to pick those little live oak acorns up. We had blisters on our hands from raking and raking and gathering and dragging 200 lb. sacks to the trash can for months out of the year. Those acorns leave a nasty tannic stain on concrete as well. At times we had so many acorns they would clump up deep down in the grass and choke the grass out. There is a place and purpose for them I know, but they are a pain when in the wrong place.

The squirrels are very busy burying those acorns.

I have two that size in my backyard that I planted myself. 5 gal. trees from Home Depot. I'd never do it again. The mess they make and the problems they cause when they get that big outweighs the shade they provide.
