I have a 2014 tandem axel Ez Loader trailer that’s sounding noisy.
Time for new hubs?

What is sounding noisy, brakes, springs, suspension bushing, or the hubs themselves. If the button is still sticking out on the cap and no sign of grease leaking out the seals then doubtful its the hubs.

I’d say the hubs or bushings,volume increase with speed. They don’t get hot.
I’ll take a closer look when I get it back from Plano Marine.
I’ll probably take it io McGills, just to have everything gone over.

Based on your first post, they are 9 yrs old and I would change them if making any noise. Does your trailer have brakes because it could be your brakes sticking? I currently have vault hubs on my trailer and I am thinking about going back to regular bearings. From my understanding, you have to buy a kit that's expensive if you break them down for inspection or maintenance. Just my opinion!!!

If you made 9 years without servicing hem you were really lucky. Vaults are generally good for about 5 years before you need to do service on them but when they fail you may or may not get any warning by seeing the grease leak. On one trailer mine were fine no visible leak but fried between the trip from Mount Pleasant to Gladewater also ruined the axle at 5 years and 3 months so no warranty. It is a little more expensive to do the service - the special grease is more expensive, the new hub caps are more expensive but the seals and bearings themselves are the same as they would be in a grease hub. If you did want to change them to grease other than normal stuff, seal, bearings clean the vault hub grease out real good and the only thing you need to buy is new bearing buddy hub caps.

New brakes 2 years ago, but I’ll have everything checked at McGill
I’m going to switch back to bearing buddies as well.

I currently have vault hubs and will be going back to regular hubs for the same reasons that you mentioned. Are you saying that I can keep the same hubs and just change the bearings, grease and etc? Thanks in advance!!

The hubs are the same with maybe the small difference of the axle they use for a Vault system has a taped hole in the very end of the axle so you'll need a grease fitting to screw into that hole to put in the new grease - of course remove the fitting before you put on the new cap.

 I have some on my Front axle, the reg hub & bearings shot & Ruined axle . They have been on a few months. Fingers crossed.

9 years on trailer hubs is great i would service them an go again the biggest problem with bearing buddies is when it gets real hot you will lose grease an when it is replaced they are over pressured an push out the rear seals.

I always take an infrared thermometer with me and shoot them when we stop along the way. Failures are friction related so heat can be an early indication.

I did that when I suspected my brake calipers were sticking. I compared the trailer readings to my truck. Knowing the variances with air temps is helpful.
