OKC to Galveston in a 40-foot Class-A motorhome with toad -- what's the best route going thru or around Houston?
Don't care if it's toll roads or not, just want "smoothest" (can't think of better word) and least-harrowing route thru or around Houston.

Make sure you are strapped and lock and load the AR and have the better half manning shotgun position.

Straight down IH45. Leave Conroe between 9PM - 3AM or 10AM - 1PM.

Beltway 8 is probably your best bet and it is a toll road.

Whatever you do don’t stop. You might get jacked.

I'd probably go 35 down to San Antonio, then pick up 37 to Corpus so I could turn back and hit Galveston from the south.

That would bypass Houston altogether and only add a few extra hundred miles.

I35 to Waco. Take Highway 6 to Katy then on to Galveston. You get to bypass most of the yahoos.

The most Houston thing you could do would be to drive that 40-footer right into the heart of the beast and see if you can carjack you a 45-footer to finish the trip in. Trade up, H-Town style.

Made the run from DFW to Galveston many times. I-45 straight through the belly of the beast. You will see morons, just be alert.

Come down I-35 to Temple and from there take HWY 36 to Rosenberg. At Rosenberg you can go to Sugarland and catch HWY 6 to Galveston (shortest route but more traffic) or you can stay on HWY 36 to West Columbia and cut over to Galveston from there.
