I had a lot of problems traveling the DNT when it was still partially under construction. I think I had 3-4 windshield hits from rocks/gravel in a 2 year period.

Replaced mine and probably two weeks later I got hit by something.
Sounded like a bullet.
Fortunately it’s on the passenger side and hasn’t spidered yet.

Tundra is ten years old, windshield is still perfect!

Buy one, it’s cheaper in the long run.

Watched a '78 Chevy windshield spider-fault back in the late '80s when I got in it after skiing in Colorado. Nothing since......

I have been traveling between Wichita Falls and Decatur twice a week for a while now, I am on my 3rd windshield in less than 3 months. Odd thing is that happened on three different vehicles. Those rock haulers running 287 are a bunch of low rent gibroni's who could at least have the common courtesy to unroll their mud flaps from the top of their tires.

Many years ago, right here on this very site, I posted that you are 100% guaranteed to get your windshield broken if you travel more than 2 minutes anywhere on 287 from 35. I’m guessing you didn’t see that post.

At one time I lived in Roanoke and drove 114 to work or the airport. I hated rock haulers. I saw one lose a spare tire once in Southlake. I followed the tire at 60 mph for several hundred yards. It crossed over the median. Just a good thing that it was early and back then light traffic going west. It was heading straight at a limo place and went right through their fence. Driving home that evening I saw several people standing around looking at the hole in the fence and damaged limos. I saw the truck driver stop. I think he retrieved his tire.

I think the wide wheel trend is probably leading to more windshield damage from rocks.

I think I may have the worst windshield luck ever. Replaced the windshield in pretty much every vehicle I've owned in the past 25 years. Some of them 2-3 times. Driving home from the dealership in my wife's new Mercedes, had a rock smack the windshield and spidered it from one side to the other and top to bottom. Had a golf ball size rock come through the windshield of an F150. Luckily it was a dead center and didn't hit my wife or daughter. I've had 4 repaired on my current GMC pick up and 3 on her Mercedes.

I've replaced the windshield on my F150 twice now. It's weird because all my other vehicles never had this issue.
