So the guys down south, on the Texas Gulf Coast, have just about gotten me convinced that mono thread is the way to go. And after fraying a few Clouser Minnow patterns on Ladyfish, I have to make a change. SO, what thread is it that we need for salt and where do we find it?

A good coating of Hard as nails on fly head helps, not perfect. But a plus. Fly master size A thread in a 230 denier works good as well, can be a little bulky on small flies.

I've been using .004" and .005" Coats & Clark monofilament sewing thread, purchased in the Walmart sewing section, for years. Naturally, the Walmart in Harlingen is just about out of all of the threads they are supposed to stock. I'm down to using an old spool of 8# Power Pro to tie flies......... Missin' my mono.

Yo Jaime! I cannot find that Coats & Clark here either, so it must be discontinued or no longer carried.

LOL. Apparently you have to go the the Porter or New Caney Walmart to get it. If I can find some I'll send you a few spools.

I managed to get Island Jims care package, and picked up two of the Uni-Mono spools in .004 from Dirty Water Fly Co in Plano when I was there doing an interview a couple days ago. Now we will see what all this mono talk is about!
